You should not wear a foofy prom dress, but you should wear formal attire. The beginning will be a lot of mingling, and then you will move to your tables where you have a name card reserved for you. Sit at your table and mingle some more with the people sharing your table. Then the tradition begins. It varies, depending on the unit, but there will be a lot of pomp and circumstance, all steeped in military tradition. It's pretty interesting if you've never seen it before. After that, you eat. There's usually a guest speaker, and hopefully he isn't too long winded. You can eat and drink wine while that's going on. After dinner is over, the DJ begins and everyone parties. There will be a photographer there for you and your date.

Have fun, be a lady, and wear sleek formal wear. Just go with it. You'll have a blast!

just dress formal. every branch have their own ball. field artillery has the st barbera...and so forth. but i'm not sure about st benedict.anyway they sit around and laugh and talk.maybe make fun of some person a induct someone into the club(like invite some person who did some significant service in their field to be in this special fraternity). the soldiers in it will wear something around their neck or some way to show you who is in already. they just have a good time and then maybe even make some funky punch from their history (like say it did something in france , and put a french alcohol in the bowl. and add different article from different times and places and then drink it). artillery ball's punch ends up with a sock and silly stuff in it.there will be soldiers relaxing talking to each other and having a good time..enjoy

Well, as with most balls, it is required that you wear a ball gown. It doesn't have to be some God-awful color or style. Just a VERY formal dress is needed. Have fun picking one out!

I don't know what they do at Army balls (I take it that's what this is?), but at the Marine Corps ball you have designated seats with your name and your sponsors (dates) name on them (usually a folded card with your name on it sitting on the table). They seat everyone, go through their ceremonies, songs, etc. Then everyone eats. A cake gets cut. And after that people go to the bathroom and get pictures taken BEFORE they get too smashed and end up looking the part! Then everyone dances and mingles... military balls are usually just big parties where everyone has a good time wearing expensive clothes and looking fabulous. I hope you have fun!

The Order of Saint Barbara is an honorary military society of the United States Field Artillery

Please get your Saint's correct :-)

Usually "semi-formal" if the military member wears dress blues then the other should be as closed to formal as possible: a Tux or a nice "black" dress.

Enjoy!

a nice, fashionable dress will do... the Soldiers will either be in "dress greens," dress blues, and the higher ups in mess dress, which is the equivalent of tuxedos, so dress accordingly.
