Right. There is no revelation -- there is only the slow, groping movement of humanity from ignorance to knowledge.
That said: scientific knowledge isn't the only relevant knowledge. I remember crying when I explained to my son about how people figured out the inner workings of the atom, and then immediately used that knowledge to build a weapon which could incinerate an entire city. We need wisdom, not just knowledge. It's true that the theistic traditions are short on scientific knowledge. And it's true that there's a lot of moral barbarism in those traditions. But they also have deep resources of moral wisdom, wisdom which we desperately need.

I really think people take the bible too seriously. Personally i feel it was written to be more of a story or novel rather than life's book. I believe in God, but i don't believe in the bible. I really don't think God would say a woman is unclean just because she has her period, nor would he not allow her to be in the tent. No one really know. Nor will be probably ever.

They didn't use soaps as we know them today with all the chemicals for deodorizing and fighting bacteria's etc.. Instead they used oils mostly compatible with the individuals body oils they used them on. Just like today some have to buy products for dry skin and some for oily skin. They were very intelligent in using hyssop and henna One of the advertised shampoo ingredients we use today. But theirs was pure. If I remember right hyssop when squeezed and rubbed together in your palms does lather. If it isn't hyssop and again I really think it is it is one of the other herbs used in that day that does that. When a King chose a wife her body was anointed daily for weeks with the most expensive oils found in the land and her hair shined and was as silk when she was brought before the king. There was no blemish to be found on her skin or a split end in all the strands of her hair. Remember the oils and spices the wise men brought to the baby Jesus. And the alabaster box that Mary broke over Jesus head anointing him before his walk to the cross. She used another to wash his feet drying them with her hair. I am not into feet so to speak but I regularly humble myself and massage my husbands tired feet. I also massage the feet of my patients who are in the last stages of thier illness. I pay special attention to certain pressure points and relieve the pain in different areas of thier body that way. I use peppermint for feet. It cools and soothes and scintillates and makes them feel like they could run the mile. I use eucalyptus etc for sore muscles. All in the bible. I think I could answer every ones comments, ponderings etc that replied to this question. God is real and the word of God is a beautiful guide to life. Thank you Jesus for you are worthy to be praised. Oh JOY!

Sho...you think they had brushes for their teeth back then. There are whole Bible books dedicated to cleanliness in preparing sacrifice and food to consume, and how to make metals and build buildings. It goes on and on and on, lol.
I am not sure about quantum physics...maybe they will add that at the next worldwide conference of Bible makers (just kidding).

There's this verse in the bible saying that we don't have to wash our hands before a meal.
Pharisees asked Jesus:
Mat 15:2 "Why don't your disciples obey what our ancestors taught us to do? They don't even wash their hands before they eat."
Mat 15:3 Jesus answered: Why do you disobey God and follow your own teaching?

In Islam, one has to clean his teeth using "Siwak" (a twig like plant similar to a tooth brush) and Take a shower on a regular Basis, one cannot even Read the Qur'an or Pray unless he is clean (The way to be clean and pure is to pour water onto your body i.e take a shower)
Islam kept Personal hygene alive.

There is all sorts of hygiene stuff in the OT. Much of the Law of Moses was probably a mystery to the ancient people, but looking at it today, much of it makes sense given our modern understanding of medicine.

That is what Kosher is all about. You need to study Leviticus more.In fact the Jews got so crazy about washing their hands Jesus had to reprimand them saying"It's OK to wash ,but now you are washing for a ritual, knock off the man made traditions!"(So to speak)
