Your stuff should all still be there unless you actually deleted it while installing Vista. If you deleted it without backing it up somewhere else, check the Recycling Bin, but I'm assuming you've emptied that and it's probably gone.

I think you contradict yourself; you said that you "took all the stuff off my computer to make room" so why you need to restore anything. Did you left some files in the computer?

Installing a new Operative System is not supposed to delete old files but sometime "bad things happens". Try to do a search for any of them, maybe they are on another location; if not then try to call an expert, because is vary hard to help you without taking a personal look to your computer; remember the more you mess with that computer the harder will be to recover those files, so call and and expert or you'll loose those files forever.

Unfortunately no.
XP System Restore does not back up & restore personal files....only system & some (not all) application files.

Once you permanently remove or delete personal files or pictures they may well be gone forever.
Windows System Restore is not a tool meant to backup or restore peronal files ... it does not affect or manipulate them in any way whatsoever.

See this Microsoft article for full details:
"System Restore does not affect your personal data files ..."

have you ever heard of the expression that what you put in the computer stays in the computer forever even if you formated or accedently deleted the partition well anyways there is a software for that it's called DiskPatch 3 or EasyRecovery Professional 6.04 and you can download it from limewire or whatever filesharing network you can think of!
