You might consider the kind I have seen at some of the pet supply stores. If your dog is well trained and won't drag you, it would work well. Basically, they're like a belt that you wear and the leash attaches to it. This gives you hands free, but still "attached" to your dog. Ofcourse, if the dog is going to constantly pull, you may want to consider training to stop that so that it's more comfortable for you, otherwise, you may get pulled down, and your waist will take a beating.

Buy a retractable lead from either supermarket or pet shop and make sure it is the correct pulling strength for your dog. It will allow your dog to run ahead or even be behind you slightly without you tripping over the lead.

I use a horses leadrope when I take my dalmatian running. Horse leadropes are about 2 foot longer than a dog lead which gives you the extra flexibilty required. You can get them at any saddlers or country store.

I use a 20ft training lead. Be careful not to force your dog to run if its still a puppy. Wait until the skeletal and muscular systems have developed fully.

I don't know about running leads, but one of those harness ones (the kind that goes around the chest/abdomen) is better than the ones that go around the neck. It's more comfortable and safer.

You can get handsfree leads (Attaches to your body like a belt) for running or hiking from www.tailsbythelake.com. It's a great store up at Lake Tahoe that carries a lot of great specialty items.
