when reading the question the first amount that came to my head was

once every 6 months

every 56 days sounds like a short period of time to allow yourself and your body to recuperate.

but im happy you area asking this - giving blood is one of the most amazing gifts you can give to the world. I am a Leukemia survivor - without people donating blood i would be here today.

You get bugged every 4 months to donate when you're registered. I guess the 56 day figure is a technicality - I suppose technically a healthy person can replenish his blood supply in a shorter amount of time than 4 months, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's good to give more regularly than that.

Honestly, I don't think it is. It won't kill you to donate blood this often but it leaves you with the risk of developing anemia. They will tell you that donating that often is fine, but that's because they desperately need your blood.

Personally, I wouldn't do it more than once every 5-6 months.

In the UK donors donate 3 times a year.

56 days sounds right...go to redcross.com, and it will help you find donation places, and drives in your area. i'm o-, and i "try" to give often...sometimes more than others...
it's healthy (for me) because your body replaces it! you don't have to "do" anything, and it gives you a few minutes to your self!!
reflect, relax, and give! also, my grand father gave 10 gallons in his life time...what a gift! and when he needed blood, he didn't have to pay for it....i don't want that to be an incentive, however, when you give, you may need to receive!!
