I had the same problem too & this is what helped me...
1. Drink lots of water (if you dont like water then juice)
2. Take vitamins daily.
3. Dont use regular soap. Use Dove or Aveeno body wash. Its a little bit more pricey but it is totally worth it if you had really dry skin.
4. Put Vaseline or baby oil on your skin before you go to sleep & leave it on over night.
5. Put a good lotion or a cream on 2 times a day or when ever your skin gets dry.
This helped me & I hope it does the same for you. Good Luck :)

Hey there, try exfoliating twice a week. What you can do is get an exfoliating brush and brush upward on your body before you get into the shower. In the shower have an exfoliating sponge and do the same with water. After you get out of the shower use a good moisturizer on your body like Hempz Body Lotion. You can always do this dry/wet exfoliation every day but exfoliate your face twice a week. You will see a big difference in your skin. Also drink 1/2 your body weight in water every day and stay hydrated. Drink more water than caffeine and alcohol. Take care.

The #1 way to reduce your dry skin:
Get a humidifier and run it all the time where you spend the most time (home, certain room, etc).
Of course you can use lotion, but that is a temp fix. A humidifier will improve your skin 90% or more, and all you have to do is fill the tank once or twice a day. I had dry skin every winter for years. This year I got a $24 Holmes humidifier, and my dry skin is almost completely gone (hardly use lotion at all).
I hope that helps.

You could go to a doctor and get prescription cream. The best time to apply lotion is right after you get out of the shower, while your skin is still wet. You can also pick up gloves and booties at most drug stores to wear at night. When my skin is feeling really dry, I apply lotion before I go to bed and wear spandex leggings and a tight t-shirt along with the booties and gloves- this helps keep the moisture locked in. You can also buy a good exfoliator scrub to use in the shower- hope this helps

Below is a Whipped Shea Body Butter recipe that works wonders on my skin when it gets just the way you described - especially in the winter! All of the ingredients can be found in your local natural foods store, or online.
9 oz. Shea Butter
7 oz. Apricot Kernel Oil
1 c Cornstarch
15 drops Essential Oil
Melt all together in the microwave at one minute intervals, stirring in between. When everything is melted, whip with a hand-held blender for 2 minutes, then place in the freezer for 5 minutes. Repeat these steps until you get a light, fluffy consistency. This will make just over a pound, which can be stored in tupperware or a disposable Grab container.
Good luck!

Make sure you use a good quality lotion every day, and keep your skin covered when you go outside into the cold. Winter weather really dries skin out.
Neutrogena has an excellent handcream (norwegian formula) that is really good for dry skin. Its quite greasy, so I would recommend using it before you go to bed.
Also when you shower, before getting out, rub an oil all over your skin. I would recommend grapeseed oil as its cheap and good for sensitive skin. But almond oil or baby oil also works well.
Then towel off as usual.
If you take a bath, you could always put some oil in the bathwater as well.
A humidifier will also help to keep your skin feeling healthier. And of course drink plenty of water.
Hope that helps. :)

First, you need to exfoliate to get all of the dead skin cells off of your body. Use some type of scrub (The Body Shop has them in several different scents) while in the shower. You can also use an exfoliating towel or gloves (which are quick and simple...just slip on your hands in the shower, put on some shower gel, and rub your body down with the gloves to exfoliate). Last, put on a Body Shop Body Butter, they are loaded with shea and cocoa butter which are great for dry skin. They have formulations for normal, dry, very dry, and extremely dry skin. The Hemp Body Butter is for the driest of skin. Check out the website to find more information. Good luck with it!

my doctor had prescribed a lotion with lactic acid in it it worked great but can only get it with a prescription. i use hempz moisturizing lotion and i love it!!! it doesn't leave a thick film and absorbs really well into the skin and smells great. be sure not to shower in very hot water as cold as you can handle it, use a good moisturizing soap, i use the glycerin soap from bath and body works. make sure to put your lotion on right after you get out of the shower when you skin is still very moist from the water that helps trap the water and absorb the lotion better. drinking lots of water helps alot too.

I use the generic Equate Total Moisture, Dry Skin Lotion. It is for really dry skin! You need to try this! You can probably get it at the drug store or Dollar General. But also you should try Walmart!

My skin is also really dry, especially in the winter. I help my skin by doing this stuff...
~Take cool-warm showers; hot showers take moisture away from your skin
~Once you're done, pat yourself dry and immediately put on a lotion with cocoa/shea butter or cream
~Drink lots and lots of water, fruits & veggies
~In the morning before you go out, put on lotion on your legs or arms. It makes them look moisturized and healthy =)
Anyways, good luck!
