Hey Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knew any methods to get rid of dandruff...

I have a lot spread over my hair...and since my hair is thick and black, it shows heavily.

It's not chunky..it's like a powder spread all over-- and it's disgusting!

I need to get rid of it...Please help?!

Thanks in advance

[[I'd like a method that doesn't cost too much-- Natural Home Rememdies may be nice too]]

Let me start by saying DO NOT USE DANDRUFF SHAMPOOS! (unless a DR prescribes one for you and even then they are horrible!) Dandruff is generally caused by too much dryness OR too much oil. It sounds to me like yours is dryness. Get yourself a good moisture rich shampoo, conditioner AND deep conditioning treatment that are for MOISTURE, no protein. Protein will make it even more dry. Shampoo as often as you feel like you ened to but always follow with the conditioner. You can at this point deep condition every time as well. Massage the treatment into the scalp and hair, wait 15 minutes and rinse, follow with daily conditioner and rinse. There are also products designed to give moisture that you do not have to rinse out like Redken Moist Ends. I always recommend BEDHEAD products for moisture.

First of all, it is important to make sure that what you are experiencing is in fact dandruff. Small white flakes that are dry are typically the sign of simply a dry scalp. Dandruff tends to be a heavier waxy flaking caused by over-active sebaceous glands in the scalp. Dandruff shampoos are designed to dry the scalp. However, if you are simply the victim of dry scalp a dandruff shampoo will only make things worse. By the sounds of it, you are experiencing a dry scalp. Try using a moisturizing conditioning treatment and work the product into your scalp. Redken AllSoft is very nice or Bumble and bumble Deeep Treatment works well. Apply as directed, massage into scalp, put on a plastic treatment cap, and allow the treatment to penetrate for 15-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Another consideration with your thick hair is that you may not be rinsing your shampoo and conditioner out well enough. Residual washing products can also produce flakes.

First make sure you're rinsing thoroughly. If that doesn't help, try using a dandruff shampoo (I use T/Gel). Wash like you normally would, rubbing shampoo into your scalp (be sure not to use your finger nails) then rinse. Wash a second time (right after your done rinsing the first). This time let the shampoo sit in your hair for about 5 minutes before rinsing. This is what I do. It could dry your hair out so you can use a conditioner after the second shampoo. This method doesn't work instantly, however, if it doesn't work within 2 weeks, you might need to see a doctor.

well yes, actaully i do have an old family remedy that has worked in my family for geneartions.

heres what you need.

-one flask of cod liver oil
-one pea strainer
-one toilet
-and some parmesan cheese

ok, youll start by holding the pea strainer over the toliet and pouring the cod liver oil through it to drain all the impurities from the oil. there is a chemical in toilet water which hydrates and exfoliates, leaving your scalp smooth and silky. together, the oil and the toilet water should make a golden-yellow color. soak your head in this mixture for about 20 minutes, when your 20 minutes are up, sprinkle your head with the parmesan cheese, the more cheese you apply, the longer you will be free from dandruff. lather until the cheese is evenly spread out over your scalp, flush the toilet and proceed to rinse your hair with the toilet water. your scalp should be free from any pesky dandruff for about 3-4 months (if you spend 10 minutes lathering the cheese) to about 9-10 months(about 30 minutes with the cheese).

im serious this really works! ive been doing it for years, and its worked wonders for my flaky scalp!

Try dandruff products such as Head and Shoulders and Selsun Blue. Also, dandruff can be worsened if you tend to scratch or touch your hair and scalp - which may be caused by the fact that you have dry skin - try your best not to touch your hair very often and the amount of dandruff you have should diminish.

Talk to a doctor ( dermatologist), He/She'll most probably ask you to get Nizoral shampoo from Johnson and Johnson.

Its got Keto Conazole, which fights the root cause of dandruff, a fungus called P. Ovale.

It worked for me, my doctor prescribed it to me.

NOTE- Head and shoulders, etc. didn't work for me, even though according to some research, it should have acted better

use shampoos with coal tar, salicylic acid, zinc, and selenium sulfide. avoid shampoos with sodium lauryl sulfate like head and shoulders. some good dandruff shampoos are t-gel from neutrogena, selsun blue, garnier fructis anti dandruff shampoo.

Head & Shoulders is a good shampoo for me although Denorex works for my daughter. The only problem with Denorex is that you have to scrub it into to scalp & it doesn't smell too good
