In the legal sense, 18 and older is adult and anything younger is considered a minor. That's if sexual relations are involved. But other than that, nothing it's all up to the individuals.

Up until about the age of 17 through 19, the maturity level of people is still increasing. This is only a generalization, all people differ. Some people may get to their maximum maturity, but never really mature.

Immature individuals, whether 16 or 64, are destructive to a relationship. They have unrealistic expectations of what the other person should be doing and dreadfully low expectations of their own duties and responsibilities.

Increasing differences in age will provide for increasingly less commonality. Less commonality of experience means less to help hold a relationship together. That said, it's still up to the individuals in question. I've had relationships with people 20 years older than myself and 20 years younger.

Statistically a relationship is more likely to break up quicker in direct proportion to the magnitude of the age gap between the two people.

That being said, it's all statistics and probability.

In each individual relationship, it's really the communication and the work that each of the two people are prepared to put into the relationship that makes it work.
