I have been on Seroquel for about 2 years. For the last couple of weeks I have been experiencing jerky involuntary movements throughout my body. This has only occured when sitting or lying down. Sometimes the jerks are so strong my legs will kick up a little or my hand will raise. Doctor thinks it's Seroquel, took me off yesterday.

Many antipsychotics and antiepileptics cause "tardive dyskinesia" if taken for prolonged periods. I, fortunately, haven't experienced it with Seroquel, but had problems with Zyprexa and Depakote. Your doc has done the right thing by stopping the Seroquel. Hang in there while he tries other medications, such as Risperdal, Geodon, etc. You don't want to have a psychotic break and end up in the hospital! (or worse).

I am experiencing jerking movements at night too, in my arms, shoulders, and neck. I have been taking
Depakote for ten years without this ever happening but six months ago my doctor had to add Seroquel because I ended up manic and hospitalized because I was off my meds, so the Seroquel was added to bring me down. Well about two months ago I started having serious jerking movements at night I have taken myself off the Seraquel but the movements continue, now I am starting to wonder if the Depakote is causing it too or if I now just have a problem.

My warning is to stay off ALL neuroleptics, check the long list. They WILL cause irreversible Tardive Dyskinesia which has no cure. I took primarily Geodon for several years and my Dr. totally failed to listen to my complaints of muscle twitching in my neck, which turned into swallowing problems and led to having botox injections in my throat area. Botox stopped the spasms that could actually be seen by others but did not stop the interior tongue and throat involuntary movements. These are very dangerous and irresponsible drugs. By the time any well trained Dr tells you to discontinue the drug, it s already too late. The TD gets worse after you stop the drug. I can t wait till the world wakes up to the realities of these meds and people finally stoop being treated like guinea pigs. The Drs and drug manufacturers need to be held accountable for the damage they are doing.
