He's not running fever. He's eating as long as he feels safe. He hides for no reason. He's not following his regular routine because he's too busy hiding and slinking. I can drag him out and he will sit by me as he normally does as long as I pet him. He lurks around to eat and visit his cat box. This morning I played with him and he was playing with his favorite toy, a stick with strings on it, but he wouldn't hardly leave the "safety" between the chairs. If he was enticed by his toy to leave the safety, he would realize it and hurry back. Finally, I left him there to get ready for work and a little later I went to check to see if he was still there. In this paranoid state, he felt threatened by me, his favorite person, and started spitting at me. He let me pet him but he quickly made his way around me and hurriedly ran low to the bedroom to hide under the bed. I don't understand it. He's not showing any obvious sick symptoms.

Is there an illness or disease that would make a cat do this? I've had cats for many years and none of them have acted like this. Yes, I will probably take him to the vet. I just wanted to know if anyone has ever heard of this or has ever encountered this type of thing before (?).

We don't know of anything in particular that has scared him that could have started this behavior. He did this years ago when we first got him, but he got over it when he got used to us in a day or so.

We have petted him and babied him with catnip and shrimp treats and he was acting almost normal today...playing chase with his other cat buddy this morning.

Anytime a cat changes it's behavior that much a trip to the Vet is in order...I see you've already said you plan on doing this.
I think it's a good idea.

Something may have scared him, but if he's hissing and spitting at you it's possible that he has some physical problem going on.

Cats hide illness from us very well, so 'acting out' maybe his way of letting you know that he's not feeling well.

Good luck, I hope the Vet gives kitty a clean bill of health.

You don't know if it is really for no reason. The cat could have had a near death experience (i.e. having something almost fall on him or a car almost running him over). Since her can't tell you, it would be best to take hm to a vet. He could have a neurological disease that is making him act like this such as a tumor. It happens. Only way to be sure is with a vet check up.

Your cat could possibly be not feeling well, he might be in pain too. I don't see any other reason. There are lots of things that can make a cat sick. It's a good decision on your part that Kitty is going to the vet.

He may be doing this for any number of reasons, but you may want to take him to the vet just in case. Just because he doesn't look like he's running a fever doesn't mean he isn't. These are symptoms of his being sick. Unfortunately, our furry friends can't tell us where it hurts. Take him to the vet and have him do a full check-up.

My cat's past that phase. It still gets a kick out of prying open the blinds when I'm asleep or playing with some toys, but it's shaked off the kitten stuff.

It is called domestico feline psychosis, a rare neurological disorder affecting 1 out of 300 cats.

Something or someone in the house has mistreated him. I would guess from his actions that maybe a small animal has gotten into your house (squirrel?) and given poor kitty a bad scare. Whatever it is, if his behavior isn't stopping, it's still going on. Make sure there are no kids or guests that are terrorizing him.

Gosh I am sorry to hear that. I have never experienced this before. I am glad you are bringing him to the vet cause there must be something wrong with him if hes scared of his favourite person
