Shouldnt it be common sense for you to love and care for people and treat them as loving and caring as you want to be treated? Why do u need to be told this?
What if everyone had the attitude of not loving themselves or each other.... this world would be a hateful place of anarchy right? So based on that logic wouldnt it be better for people to love... unless you wanted to live in anarchy?
I once asked my Christian friend why it is wrong to lie. He told me: "Because Jesus said not to lie"...Um...Personally, I don't lie because i dont like others lying to me. I dont need Jesus to tell me this. Why does my friend?
He couldnt answer it. Maybe you could?
Please no bible verses. I want to know your thoughts through your own words.
Thanks.

Theo..why do you" we need the Holy Spirit in our lives to help us to achieve love, joy, and peace in our lives."
I don't. I dont hurt people cause i dont want it done to me or my family. I love and respect those who deserve it. For the ones who don't i just leave them be and hope common sense kicks in for them and that they find love. Or i just love them more and kill them with kindess:) I dont need a holy spirit or any outside force to teach me this. The kingdom of God is within you. Isnt that what jesus said?

The word religion comes from the same root word that gives us ligament. The word itself originally came from the idea of gathering things (people, ideas, etc.) that have been separated, back together.
Judeo-Christianity (and Islam, i think) deals with trying to bring people back to God after the fall of man. It can be viewed as a literal event, or a metaphoric event.
Religion does not usually claim to teach us how to love, but rather it teaches us how to love again.
And people do need guidance. Think about your average teenage boy. He needs to see healthy men expressing their love for their partners in order to learn how to treat their prospective mates. And he needs friends to learn how to get along with other people. And he needs to be reassured that he is loved and cared for.
On a larger scale, that's what religion does. it provides ethical standards which teach a person how to love, how to get along. It even should provide a person with comfort concerning issues of death, so that they can face it when their lives are over.
Certainly, there are toxic religions and faiths that either don't provide followers with such things, or do so at the expense of others. But those should not detract from Religions in general.
I don't know about your friends view on lying. Unless he's the Pope, he doesn't speak for all religious people, though.

I'm incredibly sad to see a lot of "GODDIDIT" answers, it only proves that people have a hard time thinking for themselves.
You're absolutely right on all counts, though. This demonstrates that people can be loving individuals without the stern command of some egotistical god figure.
Christians espouse the tautology of "God is love", but they fail to point out that their god is the leading cause of death. Reading the Bible shows a god (and a savior, for that matter) that advocates slavery, intolerance, killing, and injustice. Yet, Christians have absolutely no problem trying their hardest to rationalize what their god has done and to defend his 'goodness'.
Christians... you are loving, caring people, and most of you are of sound enough mind to think for yourself and have compassion for others without the need of strict command and rule from a god or a book.

Anyone can love the lovely, but it takes a change in ourselves to love the unlovely.
Anyone can forgive a person that accidentally offends you, but it takes a change in ourselves to forgive a person that offends you deliberately.
The examples go on and on, we need the Holy Spirit in our lives to help us to achieve love, joy, and peace in our lives.
We don't receive the Holy Spirit without accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. If we have the Holy Spirit in our lives we will be convicted that we need to have our sins forgiven. It all comes in the same package, the Father - our creator, the Son - our substitution for our sins, the Holy Spirit - teaches us to live according to Gods ways.

You should bear in mind that without God and without the dictates of God to your heart and mind, you could think of doing good things or bad things. Do not brag very much of yourself that you alone have think of this and that. You must consider that God is guiding you of whatever er you are doing. Do not brag yourself that you do not need Jesus because the truth is that Jesus is within your heart guiding you. You should have not been living like what you are if God did not give you life. Do not allow yourself to be misguided b y the evil spirit who tries to tempt you from doing evil thoughts

Because the book leads us to the knowledge that we have an evil human nature and need to accept Jesus as our personal Savior and receive the Holy Spirit in order to love. I used to think I loved before I was a Christian but now I realize that my love was at times selfish and at other times conditional. So the book leads us to God's Holy Spirit and thru Him we love.

There is a chance to be miss guided without religion. Irreligious people may become gays or lesbians or gamblers. Loving everyone is not possible and recommendable, one must have competitors. We must love a few selected ones and hate a few as well.
If you cut all the mountains and fill the valleys on the earth, to make it smooth, there will be 4 kilometre high water everywhere on the surface of earth. The oppositions, ups ,downs, peace , war love and hate are vital part of life. When we walk our one foot is in motion and one static, one moving forward and other backward, this combination of oppositions keeps the flow of life.
In our own body the continuous process of construction and destruction is always in progress, cells are breaking and building all the time.
Always love to every one Not good for growth and evolution of life.

you initiate out incorrect we don't prefer God to coach us to love or to coach us to no longer kill. What you do not get is that there are 4 thousand years of Judeao Christian ethics and teachings that have formed the worldwide we are residing in. it would desire to nicely be which you does no longer have comparable morality you do if it weren't so. All you may desire to do to be certain that's to verify somewhat historic previous on cultures that did no longer have a Judeao Christian historic past to work out how they dealt with the recommendations of love homicide and the status of a guy. Even in Judeao Christian historic previous we've not regarded at issues as we do at present. interior the top you're what you're simply by fact of all those recommendations that got here in the previous you lots of that are Christian in beginning place. you probably did no longer shape your guy or woman morals they have been formed via the society you have been raised in. the final you're able to do is regulate them after turning out to be an grownup. We seek for God simply by fact we would desire to this is in our hearts. it would desire to no longer be so for all yet for the Christian this is.

I asked my friend about morals once. We discussed the fact that they were the separation of good and evil within one's point of view. He also noted that as times went on, people's perception of morals changed just as much as their religion did. By this, the morals dictate the philosophy, which turn into a religion, not the other way around. We also thought that once you remove your morals from your sight, you begin to see the world for what it really is, whatever it is, due to the unbiased view one would take for that period of time.
So, morals dictate the religion of which set the guide lines for the next generation. That's the only reason they need religion to dictate morals (to pass them along easily).
