Depression means thinking again & again about our failure sides of life. In old age we start reveiwing our actions / decisions that were taken during the life. This is the stage where we should not think about the past but think about the future of our children & family members. This is the right age when one should be polite to other memebers of family / relatives. You can chalk out a programme by which at least once in a year you can meet your all the relatives. Have casual enquiries with them.
Further, you can start habit of readin newspapers, involve more with grand children that will give releif to our sons/daughters who can get free time to involve in their relationship.
You can also start some social work like working for the society offices, area problems by meeting concerned authority like BSES, municipal offices, post offices, schools &/or Non governmental organisations (NGOs).
In place of getting involve in our own problems you think about others so that burden of depression can easily be shifted to others rather than ourselves.

I am going to disagree with others here. Depression is not a feeling, sadness is a feeling. Depression is a physical illness that can be triggered by extreme stress, anxiety, grief, etc. People who have never been depressed don't understand as they are not genetically able to get depressed. Depression causes you to feel badly, but it actually depresses all of the brains functions. I say seek a medical opinion. There are so many life changes as we get older. We lose our jobs, children move on, our friends start to pass away, we can't do what we used to, those alone are major losses.
You did get some great suggestions though. After the doctor and some medication you should focus on:

Positive thoughts and banishing them when the negative start.
Make sure you visit with someone each and every day, even though you don't feel like doing so.
Make sure you get some mid day sun each and every day if possible.
Watch only positive movies and tv, read positive books, listen to positive music.
Do some walking or gentle exercise each day as it really does help.
Do something for fun every single day. Even if you don't enjoy it now, if you used to enjoy it, do it now.
Be kind and loving to yourself as you would to a good friend that was having a hard time.
Go do something each day no matter how small. You won't feel like it, but you need to use some energy to get some energy back.
Take care and good luck. This is a physical illness that needs treatment. Go see the doc. I hope you feel better soon.

the key is staying active, whatever your limitations if any.
If you can't be active physically then be active mentally.
Keep your mind sharp, listen to the news, use the computer for word games, etc. Socializing is very important, as many times older people have lost family and friends and they don't have much opportunity to meet new people. If you worked as a professional, keep your professiional credentials and attend educational seminars. Try to help others, if not people, then animals, there is always a way to assist others, find what suits you and do it, if it isn't what you wanted find something else.
Make a garden, if you don't have room for a garden, grow plants and flowers in pots on your balcony or inside. Get some fresh air every day. Too many old people stay in the house too much.
If you can, take a walk everyday. If you can't then at least sit outside when it is sunny and hopefully not too cold. I don't think you have to be depressed just because you get older.

Do something that will make the depressed person happy. Let him/her feel that there are is someone who is willing to love him/her. Value him/her even if he/she is already old and he/she can't do the things he/she often does during his/her younger ages.

Go out, dont stay at home.
Join some community service organisation, help others, pat dogs, stroke babies bring cheer and let their smile warm your heart.

Giving time attention to others will cause you to appreciate life more and thus keep you happy.
