That depends on whether you are referring to free love or free sex. The term is often used incorrectly.

"Free love" is a sociological concept that rejects marriage. It argues that human relationships should not require legal sanction based on outmoded social mores. Free love is not about promiscuity or polygamy. It advocates monogamous partnerships without the limits imposed by law. Free love seeks to end injustices such as leniency in cases of spousal rape and domestic violence as well as removing the legal advantages given to married persons over unmarried long-term partners.

To answer your question, I think that there are a lot of good ideas connected with the free love movement. Marriage should be a spiritual contract, not a legal one. If you do not believe it is necessary to marry but want to cohabit long term and have children, you should be entitled to the same benefits and protection. Similarly, a woman or man should not be treated as less of a victim if they are hurt by their husband or wife. Marriage is a union of equals not slavery.

I certainly don't believe in the more cavalier translation of "free love". Promiscuity is physically and psychologically damaging. Those who seek that kind of "love" will find it is very seldom free of cost.

I only believe in free platonic love, IE you should ideally treat people how you would like to be treated, with dignity compassion and respect.
Free love as in sexual love leads only to jealousy and suffering.
The pain which a hedonist lifestyle can create, causes more injury than any positive attributes.
Most human beings are emotionally stimulated as well as sexually and these two aggregates of human existence cannot truly be separated.
A person cannot help but become attached emotionally to their love object ( sexual partner) which is part of the natural processes and hallmark for later on rearing children and the development of the family circle.
Therefore free love interferes with the natural psychological basis of sexual partnerships.
In the 1960's such ideas of free love spawned many communes and the like, which sadly ended in heart break when reality dawned upon such experimentalists.
Not to mention STD's.

Are you talking about love for free? As in not having to pay for love?

Or are you talking about love as an anarchy, where everyone sleeps around and "loves" each other that way?

If it's the first, I say that all really good things in live should come for free, yes. And that, of course, applies to love.

If it's the second option... well... if everyone is doing it with everyone else, can we even call it "Love"? I think not...

I believe in love, I believe in being free, but free love means "sex with no commitments". This turns something wonderful to simple body functions.

Nothing in life is free.Free love comes at a cost.It is self-serving and without commitment. To me it is the same as animals mating,no commitment then on to the next. I guess I'm too old fashioned . I'm not apologizing for my viewpoint.I still believe in intimacy and caring in a sexual relationship. Were you talking about free love as in communes and flower children?

Love is never free it has a price attached and that is responsibilty and trust, never confuse love with lust as it can end in great pain and betrayel.
