You are looking for Soluble Fiber... on nutrition labels (at least in the US), this is a different category than Dietary Fiber. This binds with fatty acids, including the LDL Cholesterol. You find this is grains and seeds (Oats, oatmeal, dried beans, peas, corn, nuts, flax seed) and some fruits and vegetables (apples and carrots).
For overall heart health, you should also be looking for unsaturated fats - mono/poly - as these are the "good" fats that your body needs. 2 servings of fish per week will also help you to get the recommended servings of Omega 3 Fatty Acids to improve your heart's health and nervous system functions.

High cholesterol could also be hereditary and there is nothing that you can do about that. You should try to eat whole grain foods. I just bought something called chlost off that is a natural way to reduce cholesterol. You can but it over the counter at the pharmacy. I just started so I don't know if it works but it is supposed to.

NO MORE………………..or very little………..Beef, pork, veal, milk, butter, cheese, coconut oil, palm oil, or cocoa butter.
Eat more Polyunsaturated fats which are often found in vegetable oils like liquid corn oil or soybean oil. Fats from olive oil, avocados, and nuts are high in monounsaturated fat and can be eaten in limited amounts. You can still eat some red meat, but avoid fatty cuts of beef, pork, lamb, or veal. These are high in saturated fats.
FOODS THAT LOWER……..Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
Whole Grains, Nuts, and Fiber, Fish & Soy
