Unfortunately, by the time you can put on your parachute and be ready to jump, you would have already crashed, or have come too close to the surface of earth to jump.

In addition, you cannot jump off a plane at any altitude, and most planes fly way above the safe altitude that you can jump. if the plane is crushing (i.e. going down uncontrollably) then you might only have a few moments in this safe altitude, which is not enough time for anyone to jump..

because parachutes take alot more space than lotation devices and if you are in the wwater for a long time you are going to get tired of swimming an if you use a parachuete well most likly you are going to land on land. and anyways you cant jump out of a comercial jet plane when it i9s going down first you wouldnt be able to get out of the door and then if you even did you would get hit my the jet blast and get shot fifty miles the other way and most likly die from that so yeah thats why

because to use a parachute - you have to go 1/8 the speed
of a modern airliner to eject - and

you cannot eject at altitude - 18,000 ft is half atmosphere
above that you would suffocate and freeze

not to mention - the commercial airliners are not meant to be
exited while in the air - like Air Force One - the movie

and parachuting is not a first time 'on your own' experience

where as you better know how to float and swim

Because you can't open the door of the aeroplane while it is flying. So there's no way you can jump out until it has landed. The flotation device is so that you don't all drown if it lands in the sea.
