All pre-cooked and packed foods are JUNK food, because they are added with chemicals and artificial flavours & colors.

The only thing that makes certain foods "junk" is the way it is prepared or cooked, and how it is served.
Most so called healthy meals contain the same base ingredients as junk food, they are just served differently.
We should all try to eat a well balanced diet, and ensure food is properly cooked, and maybe cut down on the things we add to food, so we can enjoy the real taste of the food we are eating.
The problem may just be the modern way of cooking, I would say lets get back to more traditional ways of preparing and cooking food, then we can continue enjoying chips.

Potatoes don't count towards your 5 a day as they are very high in carbs, unlike most fruit and veg.
For a lower carb/GI option you can have sweet potatoes or for chips, if you go for McCain Rustic Oven Chips, these are the first chips to be given all 5 green lights by the food standards agency.

Any food is better than no food at all, try asking some poor kid who cant remember when he ate his last meal, if he came upon a bag of chips do you think for one moment he would stop to ask himself if it counted towards his 5 a day, what 5 chips? Junk food to us from the land of too much food, and too much information ,not to others!

They do have some nutritional content, but are usually high in fat so you don't want to be eating too many. As someone else said oven chips are better than deep fried.
They don't count towards your 5 a day, as potatoes are placed in the grains/starch category not fruit and veg.
BTW I think the asker is referring to British Chips = Fries, as opposed to American Chips = crisps.

The "5 a day" refers to fruits and vegetables. I'm sorry, but a potato is neither -- it's a form of starch.
Chips have almost no nutritional value, plus they are high in "junk" -- salt, oil, and preservatives.

They are considered junk food. If you MUST have chips, buy the all natural kind that ONLY has potatoes, oil and salt and don't eat them too often.

The most natural and healthy diet for humans is an omnivorous diet, and not a plant based diet, or a meat-based diet per se. The Paleo Diet can be very widely varied and omnivorous for the most part, but the most important thing is that it’s unprocessed, and avoids the worst foods that agriculture brought mankind… refined inflammatory vegetable oils, refined grains (some are worse than others), and sugar! Learn here https://tr.im/kHZuO
As you can see, the benefits of adopting a Paleo way of eating can be incredible! I’ve been eating 95% Paleo for the last 5-6 years and I’ve never felt better. I have dozens of friends that have adopted a more Paleo way of eating too, and have seen all sorts of health problems disappear, including eliminating acne and other skin problems, digestion problems, improving brain clarity, and of course, losing a lot of body fat!

Bad for your teeth but is beside the point. Chips are not classed as healthy foods. It usualy has a lot of salt, carbs and just extra stuff. People call it empty calories because you are not really full but satisfied for a sec.
