Since we are leaving the Iraqis dealing with their problems now, why are we still there? Is the insurgency so strong that the actual Iraqi government could collapse?... or is about holding the ground for future military actions in the region?...or maybe we are just trying to avoid a civil war, which in my opinion it already started..?

Mostly to avoid the civil war- not yet started FYI (the death rate is 1/3 of that in South Africa- and it's "peace" there). If the US troops went away the Iraquis would eliminate the "insurgency" in no time at all- by the simple method of exterminating the Sunni minority. Whether this would end the Iranian interference is another story.

What is plain however is that both Syria and Iran are hoping for a US withdrawal which might trigger a civil war, possibly ending with a partition. In which case Syria would expect to grab a piece (as they did with Lebanon) and Iran hopes for the Shia part. If that happens then the US will have to go back- just to avoid an Iranian grab of Kuwait/ Saudi Arabia- and end up fighting another war against an even stronger opponent

The insurgency (backed by Iran) is strong so the new government needs assistance gaining their strength to take care of this new Iraq/Iran war which apparently is being fought in Iraq now. The crackdown has began in Iraq.
