There is no special provision in the operating system to lock the size of Finder windows. Nonetheless, I find that my windows remember their size and the next time I open one, it is the same size as before.

Other applications seem to work more or less the same way. If an application has a special setting for new window size such as the preferences that you can set for TextEdit, that is up to the developer of that application. For example, how Microsoft Word works is up to Microsoft.

I have used Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000 and XP and I still use 2000 and XP at my office. I don't remember any lock for any of those windows. Maybe I didn't need that feature so I didn't look for it.

You've got to clarify what you mean by "lock window size". Is it maximising? if such, there's the green button on the top left hand side, try it. Otherwise, I have NO idea what you meant.
