Initially the outlay for the raw ingredients would be be greater, but you'd get so many more brownies out of it, so in the long term it would work out cheaper.

INGREDIENTS:
8- 1 ounce squares of unsweetened chocolate
1 cup butter
5 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups chocolate chunks.

PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13 pan.
Melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat; set aside. In a mixer, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla at high speed for 10 minutes**. Blend in chocolate mixture, flour and salt until just mixed. Stir in the nuts. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 35-40 minutes. (Don't over bake.) Cool and frost if desired, but that is not necessary.

Enjoy!

Unless you bake a lot and would be using the various ingredients in other recipes, the mix is cheaper.

One of my favorite brownie recipes:

1 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup semisweet chocolate pieces
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
2 eggs
1 cup melted butter

In 2-quart bowl mix ingredients in the following order: granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, flour, brown sugar, chocolate pieces, and pecans.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease 13x9x2-inch baking pan; set aside. In large bowl, combine eggs and melted butter. Add dry mix; stir until combined. Spread batter in prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars. Makes about 32 brownies.

I would say to buy all the ingredients because that way you can have them on hand incase you want more! If you buy the box brownies once they are gone they are gone!
