It all depends on the quality and the amount wood you get per pack !
Is it solid wood , engineered wood or laminate ? ! would always get 5 quote and compare ! Remember a good floor should last a life time ! make sure he leaves an expansion gap and under cuts the door frames ! i hope this has helped
Far to expensive for a laminate ! ask for all quotes to be broken down in to parts and labour that way you can tell if the fitter is ripping you off !

This really depends on the type and quality of floor you want to lay. There are three types of wood floor, firstly there is solid wood floor, then there is engineered flooring, and then there is laminate. I fitted an engineered oak floor to my living/dining room going through into my hall. The total number of packs was 22 @ £34.00 each from B&Q. Since fitting i have seen them reduce the price in order to compete with Home base. What i'm trying to say is that if you have the time to spend, go out and see a few wood floor supliers to get an idea of prices, but more importantly to check the quality of the goods you are buying. Dont forget that once you've decided to chose it, you will have to live with it, and you can only do that by being sure that you are happy with the floor you have seen before laying.

I have this and it is easy to lay as long as you have an electric saw to help you cut it and can use a rule. It clicks together and you make sure that the joints are staggered. You start with the longest straightest wall and work from there. I am female and did it on my own. The edges are not too important as you put a border round when you are finished so perfect straight lines are not a must. Try laying one pack and see how you get on, get a friend to help if you are nervous on your own, it could save you a fortune and if not then you can always go back to the joiner.

For laminate, it sounds a little expensive. But I guess reasonable, if you don't want to go through the trouble yourself.
I recommend, Do It Yourself!
It's hard work, but it's no so difficult and it's really rewarding... and it's so much cheaper too!!!
I just did my lounge in real wood for less than £500. First time DIY but it came out really nice.
You probably need to get a saw though - go for an electric one, you won't regret it. If you don't want to buy one, there are lots of places you can hire. It's still cheaper than using a fitter/decorator.

We used 10 packs to do our kitchen with laminate flooring and it cost us £150. Mind you, we laid it ourselves so I guess you get what you pay for although I think £800 is a bit too much

For real wood - about right - laminate NO way - Do it yourself and save a fortune - if you mean Laminate flooring - email me the measurements of your room and I'll tell you how much it would cost to buy - it isn't difficult to do - HONEST!

We have just recently had our lounge, dining room (and they aren't small rooms) and hall done with laminate flooring and we were charged just over £800 and that was with free fitting.

t really depends on the qulaity of wood they are going to use.
We did our lounge last year and it cost about £1200. When our son moved into his flat earlier this year becuase he was on a tight budget we did throughout his flat for less than £500.

work out total area to be layed-eg- 6 metres times 10 metres equals 60square metres, then check prices with carpet shop or diy store and decide yourself if u are getting good price, boxes of flooring will tell you how much an area one box would cover.
