open a window and let him out that way. if he has to go bad enough he will just go in the house. he just needs to know he won't get in trouble.

The National News is not focusing in on Indiana but the roads are bad so people don't realize how bad it is. We had up to 16 inches of snow here. I live in an area where that was snow sleet snow with a total of 11 inches. That is a lot to shovel. There was blowing and drifting in other area which make it even harder to shovel. The only advice I can give. See you can hire someone to shovel you out.

I am in the same boat here! We had 20 inches when I went to bed, there is propably another 6 inches on top of that this morning. All I can say is shovel. Get out of the house somehow and shovel the door out and shovel a spot for him to go to the bathroom. We are going to do that again this morning for the dogs. Our dogs are loving it. I'm not, but the German Shepherds are having a blast taking headers into the drifts when we are out.
Downward, you need to look at the news or something. Indiana had blizzard conditions yesterday and everything in most of the state is closed today. We are not allowed on the roads in our town unless totally necessary here.

Aw, poor dog. I know how bad some of the snow is in the mid-west I lived in Ohio and my family is still there and they curse me everyday because I don't have any snow where I live. Especially up closer to the lakes you live the worse it is.
I would suggest opening a window for him and trying to get him out that way. If it's to big of a drop put a chair out side and lower him down onto that. Or just put him in a room by himself with newspaper and have him try to go while your not around.

I would just put a newspaper down for him/her. It wont hurt your dog to keep them inside a day or two until the storm blows over. I would never let my pup out in weather conditions like that, not even for a few minutes. Just give your dog lots of love and attention and I'm sure he's not as unhappy as you may think. Give him a treat when he goes on the newspaper.

I am in the middle of the Blizzard here myself, I have kept my front door clear by shoveling in front of it regularly since yesterday mornin when this started. I have 3 "inside" dogs and even though the door opens when I try to let them out they take one look out and decide that they will go elsewhere. Luckily they use the bathroom floor where it is tiled. If your dog is anything like my 3 then he wouldnt go out in that anyway.... so show him whats out there and he will likely change his mind an do hiz buisiness, hopefully on the paper.

You need to go out a window and dig yourself out.And in the future you should do as we do and shovel snow after a couple of inches fall so you don't end up in this predicament again. So what if it's more work. It's alot easier to move 2-3 inches than a foot all at once.

eventually he will just do it. Keep an eye on him and when he does go praise him and say a command like go pee or something and praise him. This is starting training him so that when you say go pee he will do his business. Put him in the bathroom or kitchen area were it is easy to clean and put newspaper down and make sure he goes on the newspaper. You'll know he is about to go with he is circling and sniffing the ground. Also, I would be care-full about not giving him attention when he does behavior you don't want him to do like every time there is snow you encouraging the upset behavior by giving lots of attention. I hope this helps you and good luck!

not knowing the size of the dog or your ability to do this try letting him jump out a lower level window if the snow is that deep it shouldn't be hard to get him back inside even if he is on a leash

If you have an attached garage, take the dog into the garage and see if he will go out there. It's not a familiar living space, so he may be more willing to go out there than in the house.
