Is it a good idea to use a travel agent to book our destination wedding for two? Wedding/honeymoon?

not necessary, i book all my europe trips by myself thru internet. travel agents make there money by going thru companys. you can get better prices putting a package together yourself. get air fare from somewhere like travelocity or mobissimo or kayak.com. and then look up rental homes in italy on http://viatraveldesign.com/ENJOY/destination/29/property/1/

I would suggest that since it is your wedding and honeymoon you should DEFINITELY work with a travel agent. Just make sure that it is a travel agent who will be involved in helping you plan, not just an agent who will just book it and then you never hear from them again. Most couples are already stressed enough about the wedding and honeymoon, so why not have a travel agent relieve some of that stress by taking care of the details, especially since it doesn't cost you anything? This is one trip where you really don't want anything to go wrong.

I had a destination wedding and honeymoon and I cannot imagine what it would have been like if I hadn't gone through a travel agent. This is going to be the most important time of your life, you need to be able to relax and enjoy it. If it was just any other vacation, then you might be comfortable just doing it yourself. But a good travel agent will make sure that you have the best time possible. They can help plan out and make reservations for spa treatments, restaurants, entertainment, activities, etc. The last thing you want to do is book it yourself and get to the hotel and be like, "This isn't what it looked like in the picture." Believe me, that happens a lot. Just like the Whopper in the commercial looks nothing like the burger the 16 year old ends up serving you at Burger King.

(One last thing, a lot of travel agents can advise you on ways to save a lot of money, like certain places don't charge to get married at or won't charge if you have so many guests staying with them, and a new trend is honeymoon registries where instead of wedding gifts friends and family can pitch in on the honeymoon, like pay for a spa treatment or something you want.)

I was worried that we'd end up paying more for the travel agent than doing it online. Turns out the place that I went to in the local mall goes through Apple Vacations and the price online and the price in the store were the exact same. The difference was that I could make payments to the travel agent instead of paying the whole amount at once online.
If you'd like to be able to make payments then check out your local travel agent. It doesn't hurt to ask.

It depends...sometimes you can find it cheaper through a travel agent if the timing is right meaning its not spring break or anything like that and sometimes youre better off doing it yourself. I would shop around for prices. Im going to Jamaica in June for 5 days and i shopped around for 2 months before i booked anything. I ended up paying alot cheaper with liberty travel but you can also try applevacations.com as well as cheaptickets.com, orbitz.com, jetblue.com and all those other places. See what u get and good luck!!
