I have a friend who says his back of his head hurts and he feels lost in thoughts—is he having an anxiety attack or should he just take aspirin and sleep it out?

That doesnt sound like a typical anxiety attack where breathing and heart rate change. Sometimes when im really stressed the back of my neck gets tight and i put icy hot on it. That works preety well but for an actual anxiety attack only benzo's (valium, xanax) and meditation work for me.

Its probably not an actual anxiety attack, although general anxiety can cause headaches, and so can stress. If the headache has been going on for a few days, your friend might have something more serious going on. If the headache is'nt bad and it just comes and goes, it's no big deal, take something. If the headache is bad and its continuous, tell your friend to see the doctor.

I suffer from anxiety attacks and it was usually the muscles in my neck which were giving me headaches. You can sometimes look lost in thought to others but it's a feeling of impending doom. If you don't do anything about it you start having symptoms of a heart attack, due to the muscle tension which causes a tightening in the chest. I went to the doctor and instead of prescribing me with valium I was recommended to go speak to a counsellor because they believed that anxiety attacks stem from inner emotions. I found that aspirin didn't do anything to alleviate the pain. I'd recommend him going to see a doctor if the headache doesn't go away.

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

If it's been going on for sometime I would suggest he sees a doctor. It could be a migraine or tension headache - he's probably under stress - or it could be more sinister. Best to check it out
