My significant other and I live in each city and want to meet in between but I don't know where to suggest a place that isn't too expensive but still has some sort of entertainment/nice restaurants/bars etc for us to find something to do ?

Philadelphia is great, about halfway, a little closer to NYC, but there are tons of things to do and a wide range of prices for hotels, restaurants and bars. Wilmington, DE is less expensive and still a decent choice but Philly's got a lot more to offer.

May I suggest Trenton, NJ - the state capital of NJ and a pretty historic city in its own right. I doubt that Trenton is as expensive as Philly.

I'm going to assume that each of you is travelling by Amtrak? Trenton is less than an hour from NYC and up to 2 hours from DC. Philly is the more accurate halfway spot but the city is expensive. Atlantic City is too much out of the way and requires a separate train ride unless each of you is willing to meet in Philly and take the train. Atlantic City is just as expensive as Philly and almost rivals NYC, especially with food.

Philly or Wilmington would be about halfway between. Philly is a great city. I don't know too much about Wilmington. Baltimore is always great too, but it's definitely closer to DC, and probably 3.5 to 4 hours from NYC. Also, the beaches of NJ, DE, or MD would be nice, and not too expensive this time of year.

Wilmington, Delaware

Cute little town, about 1/2 way and serviced by Amtrak.

Or Try Philly

ATlantic City, NJ would be about a three hour drive for each of you and there is plenty to do there. Just pick a hotel to meet at like maybe Ceasers or Harrahs.

How about Wilmington, DE. It's not a huge city, but I am sure there are bars and restaurants, etc.

Alexandria,VA
Nice hotels, restaurants, a lot of fish restaurants. The Potomac is nice and a lot of romantic restaurants on it.
