what are the positive and negative effects?

Positive is that I don't live in such a barbaric place where people are easily influenced and animalistic. Negative effects is that I have to face the reality that this stuff happens and people actually live like this.

Well, here's an answer from personal experience. For a while I was visiting a mainstream Muslim bulletin board (though I'm not a Muslim). I was pretty shocked to see that, among legitimate issues covered -- questions about Islamic theology, dating, etc -- there were postings that, indeed, linked to these types of videos (attacks on Russian soldiers in Chechnya, beheadings, torture sessions, etc). The amazing thing was, these were allowed to stay up on the board, and were treated by the Board as a normal part of Islamic discourse. Later, when I complained, they didn't take them down and my posts were violently criticized as coming from an unbeliever who was trespassing.
And, much to my chagrin, I watched a few, out of, as someone else said, prurient curiosity. And I have regretted it ever since. I can still see these images in my mind, and I wonder what happened to the victims, how they suffered, if it were my child, etc. It has literally kept me awake at night as recently as last night, though I saw them 2-3 years ago. I vacillate between grief and rage that makes me just want to mercilessly take out everyone even associated, however distantly, with jihad.
So, I agree with others who wrote in -- there are absolutely no pros, and if you want to remain a healthy person with a healthy conscience and respect for human life, unlimited cons. Watching other people die or be tortured is not entertainment.

We all know the negative effects.
I can think of a good positive effect. It should remind everyone exactly what type of people we are dealing with, and remind you that they are barbarians and we are doing right by ridding the world of them. It should help you to understand what we are fighting for and why it is so important that we remain civilized and a better world.

Pros: getting a real-world experience (whatever that would do)
Cons: - Disturbing you
- seeing someone die in great pain
- disturbing you
-seeing something you were never meant to see
- Twisting your image of what's happening in the world by showing what's happening to about 1/1,000,000,000,000,000 th of the world, and making you think it's everything
- desensitizing your heart
- filling your mind and clouding your conscience with scarring images and thoughts
- developing unkempt understandings of things that are ill-explained and left to your imagination to figure out and resolve
- disturbing you, probably even for life, to some degree
- disturbing you
- seeing something you were never meant to see
- watching someone die

Are you talking about those films that are circulated of hostages being captured and murdered? If so the person doing the killing is substituting the blood lust for the lack of sex in their lives, they get off on it. So for the murderers it is positive the nearest they will get to the sex act. I think on the negative side it dehumanises the person watching it.

I can't think of a pro, unless you consider satisfying your own prurient interests a pro (you are aware that snuff films are a form of pornography, right?) As for the con's--it desensitizes you to violence and to human life.
