So I have a crush on a guy and I'm pretty sure he's not into me.

That's cool though because the extent of my relationship experience is three serious crushes and I've gotten used to just admiring from afar and not expecting anything to happen.

Now I've met a guy who's interested in me and I'm just not interested with him, for a lot of reasons.

The thing is, because this guy and my crush know each other, in the back of my mind a voice is saying "you can't go out with that guy because maybe your crush actually likes you and won't think you're interested if you date someone else"

It's insane but I can't stop. Its not the reason why I'm not interested in the second guy but its not normal right?

Why do we want what we can't have and how do I stop thinking like that?

It's called forbidden fruit, and it's completely normal. Relax and try to think about what's more likely to happen.

good question and I feel for you. i guess it's just human nature, surviving skill: try to gain something we don't have and create the thought that what we don't have is better so we pursue them and get to survive. but you know what? it's all in our heads. we create the world we live in from our brain so there isn't really a reality: we believe what our brain tells us. so try to teach mind some different/alternative ways of thinking and you may train your mind to think in a broader perspective. btw, if you are not 100% sure your crush doesn't like you, ask him for coffee and see whether it takes off. when you're sure, it's time to move on. or give the 2nd guy you're not interested in a chance....good luck!

Its just human nature, from the beginning of time it has been so, look at Adam and Eve, God said DON'T eat, but the wanted what they could not have, so you are not alone , We humans are a strange breed, I.m sure that you will finally get your guy, maybe not this one, but someone will come along that will feel the same way toward you as you do toward him.
Good luck

ive never had anyone like me myself, but i know people who have and ive been in other positions of this triangle

and heres my advice:
go out with the guy who likes you, it'll make him feel better, feel wanted and feel loved, it'll also show you as a kinder person.
the other giuy might like you but he'll like you more if he cant get you and if not then dont waste the oppourunity with the guy who does like you - you can be happy with you liking him as a friend and him loving you
it can work
i hope it goes well

It is the thrill of the chase. There is nothing better than the feeling of getting what you want.
