my breast fed my son until he was about 9 months old. It is perfectly safe as long as you dont drink, do drugs etc anything that can pass through the milk to the infant. It was so much easier than making up formula milk, then sterilising i just had to attatch him 2 me so much cheaper too. Not only this but as i have an older son when it was our dinner time i had a free hand to help feed him and feed myself which i can imagine you wouldnt be able to do if you were holding a bottle as it takes both hands.

Yes and yes.

Now I will elaborate. =P
Yes, some mothers still choose to breastfeed their babies, yet some choose not to. It's all a matter of preference.
And yes, breastfeeding is normally safe. Though there are times when it's not safe or not the best choice. For example: If the mother is HIV-positive or has AIDS, if the mother is taking certain kinds of medications, if the mother is a drug-abuser or alcoholic, etc. And there are even times when it's not safe or possible for the CHILD to breastfeed either, such as with very premature birth.

My daughter was born 3 months early and weighed less than 2 lbs at birth...she was in critical condition for a while and wasn't able to take any milk at all. I was so sad by this, but I pumped my milk with a breastpump to keep up my milk supply until I WAS finally able to breastfeed her...and although most preemies don't do well with breastfeeding as it can be very difficult to suck for them, my daughter amazed everyone by PREFERRING to breastfeed. I was so happy about that! It's a wonderful bonding experience and allowed me to be as natural as possible. =)

I will choose to breast feed my baby I have had classes and read pamplets and as long as the baby doesn't need a special formula I entend on it.

breast feeding :

helps develope your babys brain growth and oral and facial development

will reduce his/ her risk of becoming over weight or obese later in life

it contains ingredients that decrease the baby's risk of infection, diarrhea, constipation, allergies, asthma, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, diabetes, and certain cancers.

Its good for the mothers health too

reduce the risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer

helps release a hormone that helps you feel calm and relaxed

delays ovulation and menstration reducing your risk of becoming pregnant again too soon.

I know I am going to try and if my son has problem latching on I'm going to express to he can still get my milk. The answer to the other question are you asking is it safe or are you stating it is.
Of course its safe but if you take certain over the counter drugs which wont be giving to you if you let your doctor know you are nursing. they can be passed through the milk to your baby. If you take illegal or over the counter drugs that are not safe then no it wont be good for your baby. And if you drink it can be passed.

so the only time its safe is if your safe and do all the right stuff for your milk production and your baby's safety.
