Yes, and there are two kinds:
A-theists (those who don't believe in a deity of any kind)
Anti-theists (those who are against believing in a deity)
Those in the second group call themselves Atheists in error, and those in the first group might actually be a mythical creature.

Well .... in certain sense, all Christian I have met worship at the altar of false intellectuality too .... what's the difference? You THINK the bible is correct and hence felt what Atheists think is wrong and Atheists THINKS the bible is incorrect and hence felt that the Christians are wrong.
Put it this way, Christian says it is wrong to worship an Idol, however, they go around carrying a cross or an image of Christ.
Christian says it is not right to believe in the false gods, however, they believe in Jesus Christ (ok, in this edition, it is seen as Christian view their god is the real god and others are fake, so as the other religion)
It is just a perception thing..... try looking at it on the other side of the fence.

Well I am not going to pretend that I am smarter than the next person, but I do not believe in a God that allows babies to be born with AID's and children starving all around the world. If God is so great and he has a plan, I sure would like to know why he is practicing on our children. I do not believe in a book that says being homosexual is wrong when all parts of the animal kingdom the same kingdom you claim GOD created show clear signs or hetero and homo sexual activity. So as long as the "good book" teaches people to hate and our children are unfairly given the death penalty then...yes I do not believe. I think the real fools are those people who work hard everyday and take the bus or train to make sure they provide enough money to their preacher or minister to ride in a Benz! Go figure.... Yeah I am smarter than that! And lastly, since GOD is so good may I ask why he allows his " wise men" AKA men of the cloth to rape young boys and girls and the Vatican protects these monsters...whose right...whose wrong....I guess we will have to find out together...the hard way. Gee thanks Adam and Eve !!!

Your question would be funny if it didn't have such a glaringly stupid logical flaw. You assume that 'worshiping at the alter of false intellectuality' would make these atheists theists. Unfortunately you misunderstand the very meaning of the word.
A theist is one who believes in a god or multiple gods. Are you saying false intellectualism is a supernatural being?

I don't see why the concept of a person not believing in God is so incredulous and that it would be assumed the person is lacking in intellect. Although of all the fantasy stories, the Bible was the one I held belief in for the longest! I was about 5 when I realised the tooth fairy didn't exist, 7 for the Easter bunny and 10 for Santa Claus! My doubt in the existence of god didn't manifest until my mid 20's!

YES, THERE ARE, and I'M ONE.
We worship NOBODY. We just use our INTELLECT, READING and LEARNING as much as we can through efficient tools such as ARCHAEOLOGY, SCIENCE, GENETICS, PHILOLOGY, PHYSICS, etc etc etc....We're not blind-folded and ignorant as most believers are. And, personally, other than being an Atheist, I'm also an intellectual: I'm a Philologist (I speak 5 modern languages fluently, know ancient Greek, and Latin languages and literatures, and their Sanskrit roots) and I achieved a Master in Sumero-Akkadian Epigraphy too; do you still think you can somehow keep up with me and my KNOWLEDGE?;) I really DOUBT THAT my 'believer' friend;)

I am an atheist, and worship at no altar. (Like Iblis, I do not bow down.) I consider myself to be an intellectual, and have sufficient qualifications to do so.

That is such an extremely witty observation that you might be considered an intellectual yourself, so watch out ...

I'm an ATHEIST.
You need to have brains to be an atheist. True atheism is a whole philosophy(or religion) altogether. In India you have many 'saints' who practise atheism.
You say that you've met atheists. My dear friend, they are NOT. They are just morons, masquerading as atheists.
