cheap airline tickets?

what airline has the cheapest prices over all?

It depends on where you are going and where you are leaving from. Not all airlines fly to all locations. I could tell you that Southwest had the cheapest tickets, but if they don't fly to or from where you want to go then it doesn't do you any good.

I travel a lot and my company always books the cheapest flight available. I usually fly Delta because it happens to be the cheapest flight from where I am to where I'm going.

That is too broad a question to really answer. It really depends on where you are flying and how much competition there is on specific routes and such. And it's supply and demand too - airlines will offer very last-minute deals on particular routes that haven't sold out because they figure they would rather fill seats for very little rather than having them go empty (and nobody paying for them). And if you're flying into a large hub airport, the airline that has a hub there might offer the cheapest flights to that airport. Also, as someone said, not every airline flies to every destination. Some small airports only have a couple of airlines serving it. And I fly from Boston-Washington quite often (at least 3-4 times a month or more)... most airlines will fly that route but not all do (Northwest Airlines doesn't).

I tend to find the best prices on American Airlines or USAirways. Contrary to popular belief, the "low-fare" airlines for me actually seem to be more expensive. Sometimes I check Southwest Airlines and they're like $10-20 cheaper than some other airline, but they don't fly out of my city so I'd have to go to an airport an hour away, and pay more than $20 to get there so it's not cheaper for me. So you'd have to look at that as well - it doesn't always pay to fly into or out of a less convenient airport. And JetBlue is always more expensive.

So basically, it pays to shop around, but there are too many factors involved to say that one airline is always the cheapest.

It all depends on where you are flying to. Check out www.skyscanner.net as this website will give you the cheapest airlines in each country for different destinations.

You cant say that 1 airline is the cheapest overall as there is not 1 airline that flys to every destination.
