I think your answer is good....but I think maybe you should examine this from a different perspective.

The problem isn't women.....it's MEN.

The question, therefore is....

Why don't men respect women?

Men, especially in this country, have objectified women. They focus on the superficial and give attention for things like big boobs or tight asses. It's quite a disappointing scenario. Many women have given up trying to get attention for their brains....they've given up trying to fight the collective mindset of American men. They could have a PhD from Harvard and be the author of a revolutionary book on Philosophy, but gain no respect or recognition.....in fact that would likely work against them when it comes to attracting a date. SO.....they wear something sexy and all of a sudden men give them attention and they have their choice among 10 men just for giong out at night wearing a short skirt.

Men give women more attention for wearing less....men buy more movie tickets if they know a woman will be naked in the movie....men look at porn (USA makes more $$ on porn in this country than it does on Hollywood films)....MEN OBJECTIFY WOMEN.

The problem is men.....not women.

We must teach our young women to respect themeslves....

BUT much more importantly.....to change anything we must teach our young men to respect women.

It's mainly due to media pressure. The media, whether it be tv, magazines, etc, are always portraying women as being sexy if they are thin and flaunt their stuff. That doesn't make it right. Make sure your daughter knows that. Let her know that a guy should like a lady for who she is on the inside, and not just for her looks, and that she shouldn't give in to media pressure just to get a guy. As far as respecting their bodies as in the 'old days' you can thank the 60's / 70's movement of 'free love' pushing women to do things they never used to do.

To the technical side of the question: Men are more attracted to women based on appearance and women are more attracted to men based on personality and confidence - just natural traits associated with each gender. The media knows this, and that if they put a picture of a scantily clad woman in the advertising holding the product they are trying to sell, the man is more likely to buy it. It pretty much comes down to corporate greed and manipulation.

This is not exactly correct.

On beaches, men usually wear NOTHING above the waist. For some reason, no one gives that a second thought. But, think about it -- who wants to see that?

What women (and men) wear is their choice. Tell your daughter (and yourself, apparently) that people show respect for themselves and others by what they wear.

So, when you help her select clothes, stress modesty.

If you are the father, be sure you dress modestly at the beach or otherwise, NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE DOES. Wear SOMETHING above your waist.

If you are a mother, set the example for your daughter in dressing modestly. You are the greatest influence on her. Use your power.
