My friend's son is 5 and is very interested in the ladies. he loves looking at his mum's clothing catalogues esp the lingerie/swimwear, he likes playing with his sister's barbie dolls (always removing their clothes), in the shops with his mum the other day when she was getting him a comic he had a tantrum because she wouldn't get him a lads mag. the other day when I was over there with my gf, he was all over her, sitting on her lap, trying to touch her breasts (she was showing a lot of cleavage, big mistake). My friend is worried. Should they see a psychiatrist or is this just a phase. Anyone remember from their own childhood whether this is normal. I don't think I was like this until about 10 at the earliest

He also likes watching any sport where women show their bodies, like ice skating, tennis, swimming etc. He's not interested in football otherwise. Just stress it's not my child though I'll pass the advice on. Re lads mags - they shouldn't be sold in supermarkets and shouldn't be at child's eye level. It's disgraceful

they problem is that he's messing around and looking at porn, so he's going to be more charged up. get him out of that and he'll return, somewhat, and a normal kid.

Hi, although i think it is normal he is starting to notice different parts of the body, and playing with his sister's barbie dolls is very normal for a 5 year old why shouldn't he play with dolls, but what i don't think is normal is that he was having a tantrum for a lads mag, how does he know what a lads mag even is at his age unless he has been told, does his dad look at these and show him telling him that it is good to leer at girls in this way, i don't think a 5 year old would even consider this type of behaviour over a lads mag unless he had seen it being done. On the point of him touching your girlfriends breasts if they were showing what can you expect, he will be starting to notice that girls and boys have different parts to each other, my daughter always used to find breasts amusing but she was a normal healthy child and has grew up to be a normal healthy young woman (no she is not gay before you ask, although that would have made no difference to me if she was), so i would be a bit worried about the interest in lad mags, his mother needs to sit him down and tell him this is not right and explain why. She could ask her local health vistor for advice if she is worried.

I would distract him from the situation. There has to be other more age appropriate things he enjoys. I have a boy and if you snicker and encourage this behaviour it will continue. My son went through a phase where he would whoup it up when he saw Jessica Simpson, I would just shut the TV off and say " Sorry Son, time to play or do something else, that`s not the way we treat women". They usually snicker, but they get the point!!

I am not suprised that your son loves ladies. cos this time of days childrens see all kind of thing specally when watching tv. even in childrens programs. At the age 5 and over children knows all sorts of relionships and why do two sorts of people have sex for and why.. i think its most comes from Tv beacuse tv shows a lot of ladies entertimant. i am 19 years of age but i do not have any kids. but i do have a brother who is 10 years old and by watching TV for couble of hours he learn so many things..
but its all comes from your friends. children when they are young or even about the age of 5 they ask so many stuff cos they want no why do sexual relionships and so on. but i do send all my wishe s to your freinds son . you must be a very good friend to her cos it seems you care so much about this and you want to help you friends son. thats a such a very good idea well done.
i think they should see a psychiatrist. talk to you friend about this and see what she says. but again we all wish we had a friend like you its to hard to find one like you so caring.. WELL DONE and wish you the best... hanna from Glasgow

The mother needs to question the lad. It seems to me that he has been exposed to indicent material and therefore finding it a normal way of life. This is worrying, this cannot be seen as a phase.
Sorry to be so blunt.

Children learn from example. Someone in the household should be more discreet around him. They should expose him to more children his age and let him explore his imagination in a sensible way. The thing that makes a child pure is the innocence. Thye should meet with a child psychologist. The worst thing ever is seeing a child that doesnt have the faith of a child.

This is normal for a 5 yr old. A child sexual maturity may begin to rise as early as the documented age of 3 (though only rare circumstances). Don't try to repress his sexual appetite as doing so will only make it much worse and besides he will probably find another outlet for it (You dont want him to grow up to become a sexual predator now do you?). Just monitor his behaviour for a bit and see where he goes with it. If it's causing any actual harm to others, then seek a child psychiatrist. Otherwise, leave it be.

Has he been sexually molested in some way by a female caregiver (mom, babysitter, aunt, grandma ect)? When little kids act out sexually at an inappropriately young age, it's often because they've been exposed to some kind of sexual abuse.
In the case of a little boy acting out sexually with women, probably some female relative or caregiver did something sexually inappropriate with him.
Yes, women can be molesters too!!

5 year olds have a very strong interest in the opposite sex, although at a very juvenile level. They're interested in what's different, and find it fascinating. There's no harm in it.... and the more sheltered he is, the more fascinated he'll be. Let him explore....within reason. But keep the limits VERY clear.

It is very normal. He is curious woman have different parts that he does not. Just sit down with him and explain that woman have diferent body parts and that he should not touch. Talk to him about his own parts and that it is not ok for someone else to touch them and then tell him the same about woman.
He is completly normal do not worry , just talk to him and it will be OK it is a phase it will pass.

How does a five year old know what a "lads" magazine is?
Kids pick things up from observing other peoples behaviour
