How do i get a video from my digital camera on the compuet?

I got the usb cord pluged in right but i can't figure out what to do next

I have windows. And what I usually do is 1. turn off camera. 2. plug it in with this usb. 3. turn on camera. Then windows will automatically ask if you want to transfer. No matter if it is video or images.

After you attach the cable properly, you should be prompted further as to what comes next. If you get no prompt, the computer isn't reading your hardware.
