My color T.V. has started to pop and crackle as interverrance lines dance across the sreen. This stops usually after 10 to 15 minutes of being turned on. However a few times it went all evening. Could this be a result of a static charge that has built up around the T.V.. If so would a T.V. deguasser work?

Well no.....none of that will fix it.....

It sounds like your tuner is failing....flashes of white with sound crackling at the same time generally is a good indication of that....

Most Tuners will run about 80 dollars, Then you have to pay a Qualified Tech to properly install it and test it....
Labor depends on the size of the TV and MOST COMPANIES will want to Verify your ***-umptions since you are telling THEM what's broken....

Fact of the matter is....I'd have to SEE your TV to properly analyze the failure too......

So.... I SAY IT's the TUNER, it sounds like it from your description of problem, and it needs to be looked at....
So, pay the diagnostic fee and see what it will cost you is the best choice for you now.....

The fact that the faults clears after 15 mins or so is very suggestive of high voltage arcing , it often stops when the sets interior warms up and drys out any humid air. It should be easily fixed by cleaning and drying the fat lead that goes to the pic tube and the place where the lead is connected to the tube ( assuming a CRT type tube ), If in slightest doubt get a TV tech to have a look !!! Cheers Pete

You may try to de-gauss, but first check the following:

1) Your connections at the antennae (co-axial cable must not be loose, or have any signs of corrosion at the connection terminals)

2) Check your plug that goes into your TV, is the co-axial cable loose inside the plug? If it is a sealed cable, try to cut it off and fit a new one!)

3) Check for electrical sources of interference, eg: hair-driers etc.

4) Check for high powe transmitters near your house, typically you will see large antennae's or masts at such a source!

5) Is there anybody that uses a two-way radio near your house?
They may be the source of your frustration!

Maybe this is an old TV and the solder in the board located behind the CRT has solder crack because of over heated. Need to check and re-solder.
