That's a common sign of Colitis. Usually caused by a sudden change in diet. Needs antibiotics & a "softer" diet
Try chopped chicken with cottage cheese &/or rice.

Don't panic. You are doing the right thing in taking him to the vet
He might have worms - in which case the vet will deworm him for you.
Or, he might have an infection in his digestive system, in which case the vet can give you something to settle his gut down. He might tell you to starve the pup for 12 hours and then reintroduce food, feeding him boiled rice and pieces of chicken breast, then reintroducing his normal food at the 3rd meal.
Your puppy will have several incidents of poo problems as he grows up - its all part and parcell of their obsession with eating everything they find!! So don't worry too much - he'll be fine once the vet has worked out the cause and advised you on the remedy.

I took my 12 week old puppy to the vets with this problem yesterday and she has got colitus, which is basically an upset stomach from eating in her case snow, but anything grotty can give this condition. Vet said starve her for a day and she is on a course of antibiotics. But the important thing is to take your puppy to the vets as this can escallate into a serious condition.
Good luck

Nasty foul bloody diarrhea and vomiting is parvo, so if it gets really bad really quick, then seeing the vet is an emergency. Being only 8 weeks puts him at risk for this. A small bit of bright red blood could be diet, stress, worms, coccidiosis, or giardia. Make sure you bring the vet a stool sample so they can treat him appropriately. A severe case of parasites can be life-threatening at this age too, but not often.

I just picked my 8 week old up from the vet for the same thing and it ended up being Parvo. Is it vomiting also, I would call you vet today and see if you can get it in sooner, Parvo is deadly in puppies mine spent from Saturday in the hospital, he will be ok but only because we caught it early.
Goood Luck

If it is a lot of blood, and loose stools, it could be an indiication of Parvo. However, if it is a smear of blood in the stool, it may just be worms, and can be easily 'fixed'.
If it is Parvo, the vet can tell within a few minutes. If it IS parvo, get this stuff quickly..It really makes the difference> http://www.parvoguard-parvo-solution.com/?gclid=COjxxK2xrYoCFSBWYAodH3R9qw

The first two replies you received are excellent. Either the pup has a disease already or there have been way too many changes in his diet. Talk to your vet. I wish you the best!

More than likely it's Coccisidiosis. Nothing to panic about--but must be treated. It's quite common in young puppies, especially when they first leave to go to their new homes. It's also called "stress diarrhea". It could (less likely) be Giardia too, but more than likely it's Cocci. The vet will give you the medication for him, he'll be fine.
It's NOT Parvo. If it were Parvo, she'd be vomiting uncontrollably and have diarrhea like you've never seen before. I tried Parvo-Gard, didn't help. My pups all died anyway. We tried EVERYTHING!!!

It could be Parvo or the pup could just have worms which is most likely as long as you deworm him he should be ok.
