My pilot light went out and I just relighted it without waiting the requisite five minutes. God had His perfect chance to smite me. What gives?

God don't smite people. If you wanted to be smited you have to do it yourself.

Maybe you can escape Him forever. Ever seen the movie Final Destination ? I would ask you if you've ever read the bible, and I could give you a better example, but we both know the answer to that question.
