He hasn't popped the question yet though, but we know we are going to get married in 2009. Should I even be looking into wedding planning yet? Is it ever too soon to start planning my dream wedding?

It's okay to start planning. It may give you a good idea of how much things will cost, too. But don't try getting him involved too much at such an early stage. Most guys don't want to get involved in the wedding arrangements because it causes TROUBLE. Planning in advance will also guarantee that you will have everything ready. I have seen a real DISASTER wedding because some things could not be done because the time was too short. Remember, people move at their own pace. They take forever to do things for you.
Depending on your boyfriend, most men just want their wives and mothers to have a special day. And of course to hear, "I do!"

Eight years seems like a long time to wait if you have been with the same person for that long. I dont see how you can know "for fact" that you will be getting married in 2009 if your boyfriend has not even asked you yet. I wouldn't start planning your wedding until he asks you to marry him.

I don't think I would plan anything until you know for sure that there will be a wedding...I had an elderly next door neighbor who had a fifty year engagement....he ask and bought her a ring...after one of our other neighbors daughter got married she told everyone she would be the next to be married in the church..it never happened..she loved him and wanted to get married but he just couldn't bring himself to go through with it..they seen each other steady for all those years and when he died he did leave her two hundred grand...nobody knows for sure why he never married her..... true story....

I would just wait until he ask..or you could ask..nothing wrong with that..than when a date is decided for the wedding ...than I would start making the plans...until then I wouldn't do anything......

your a very patient soul.... : ) ...most people would never have waited this long without any kind of real commitment....I hope he appreciates what he has..you...

best of luck on your up and coming engagement.........

It's OK to start planning right now.
Some churches and reception halls are booked at least a year in advance.
You don't realize how much planning it takes and fast time goes by.
Pictures are important and you need to see a number of photographers to ensure you like the one you get.
Music, DJ's, Invitations (long preparation, Mailing addresses, Cake, dress, limos, bonbonnieres, stag and doe, showers etc..
Start by June 2007 and involve family.
Unfortunately no matter how early you start, something always gets left out or happens. Don't worry about it just enjoy the day

I'm guessing that you've had the 'we're getting married' conversation, but he hasn't done the romantic bs of a proposal. That's okay, my lover and I didn't bother with that bunk. If you two are paying for it, start saving. If you enjoy planning, you can start planning as soon as you like. I'm not getting married until next year, but as soon as I told our families that we're engaged they started planning and that was almost 2 years before the wedding is actually going to happen. I think they are completely insane, but whatever, I'm not planning it or paying for it myself. :)

It's never too early to start planning. I'm getting married in 08/08 and I started plannig last year. It makes it so much easier, that way you know way ahead of time exactly what you want, where you want it etc. Good luck planning

If he hasn't asked you yet you shouldn't plan anything...don't plan until you get a ring...if he hasn't asked you to marry him after 6 years together maybe there's a chance it won't happen?
