Why is it that people who order food from some where are SO rude if everything isn't exactly how they want? Seriously. I have work for a pizza place for just over 4 years, I have been in management for just over 1 year. I don't understand people. They get so angry over just FOOD! Its not that big of a deal, really. Don't they realize that mistakes happen? Its like, "oh, I'm sorry, the rest of us aren't perfect, like you!" I understand that you need to treat your customers kindly, thats what makes your money, is their business. But I am sick of people thinking that they can get whatever they want by complaining, and often times lying. The more people complian, the less I want to, or am willing to help them out. Why don't people understand this?

Sorry, but I don't agree with those of you who say the customer is always right. That is far from the truth. No, I'm not sick of my job. I wouldn't have been doing it for over 4 years if I was. I'm not saying you can't talk to someone in management if something is wrong, I'm just saying that you don't have to freak out over it. Also, I am suited for management. I take pride in the good job that I do as a manager, thank you very much! :)

On behalf of other Restaurant / Bar employees....
AMEN SISTAH!
PREACH ON!
When people start complaining or getting on my nerves, I just start to ignore them. They may want to get an ulser from food issues, I sure don't.

Because they are American! Kidding, I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes it is because they think they will get something free out of it. My brother was working at a restaurant last year as the manager and there was this one woman that got a pizza and a milkshake. When she had drunk 3 quarters of the milkshake and finished half the pizza, she said the milkshake was sour and the pizza was burnt and wanted new ones! They told her to leave, lol! I usually don't complain for 2 reasons, one because I can usually deal with the fact that the food isn't 100% how I wanted it and secondly because if you complain, they do actually sometimes spit in your food or something to that effect! It's no myth! Anyway, good luck and I hope your job lightens up and you don't get too many complaints! The best thing to do however, which proved true with my bro, is just keep absolutely calm while the customer is shouting, making like it is not affecting you in the least! It really is the best thing, lol! Ciao :-)

Well, the customer IS always right. However, there is never a reason to be abusive or rude.
If something was wrong with my pizza, I would have to pick my battle. Is there an item on there I am allergic to? Did my favorite topping get left off? Did I accidentally get a little burn on one side or should it be stuck back in the oven for just a few moments? It depends on how big of a deal it is, how far in the weeds my server is at the moment, how much work will it be to make it right or just let it go. Maybe I should just ask the server to make sure I shouldn't be charged for the extra topping? Maybe it won't hurt just to eat the little burn side and shut up....maybe 5 more minutes or a little extra marinara on the side will make it better? Maybe the pizza is unable to be eaten and should be returned?
Complaining is useless unless you have a suggestion as to how to resolve the issue, and it should never be "just for a freebie". Also, never be disrespectful and treat the server as if they personally cooked the meal for you and intentionally screwed it up. They want to make it right for you, and their extra efforts to take care of you should secure a good tip. After all, a problem means they are working harder than usual to provide you service, so don't forget about their resolution efforts.
However, if you are both polite and reasonable in your complaint and are treated rudely by your server or management, then you have a right to get up and walk out that moment, and fire off letters to the Chamber of Commerce, the BBB, the corporate offices, and anywhere else you can be heard.
There is never a reason to curse or be abusive to any service person.

Well, I do think good food is important, I don't go out to eat that often and when I do, I like it to be what I ordered. I won't just eat it or anything. But neither would I get extremely upset about it, I'd just say it was wrong in a normal manner, and ask for someone to correct it if at all possible. It seems too many people nowadays start yelling and cussing before even *trying* 'Pardon me, but...'
People who lie about the quality hoping to get a discount or completely free food are of course totally rude idiots!

I can understand your feelings on the issue of how people could be so rude.. over just FOOD. I wouldn't say you are wrong on this, but only if you could switch your views on this would make a great difference to you.
Customer are always right!! Yes, many a times its really hard to please them. However, being in the hospitality industry you should try and make the customer feel that he/she is right and do your best to satisfy him/her.
You should think through the customer point of view, make note of the different type of complains you receive. Review them, and make necessary amends wherever required and wherever possible.
Somethings do go wrong at times, but being calm and using your wits could get you out of trouble.
Address an irate customer as an important one and prioritise it which would make the customer feel important. In the meanwhile try and get feed back on the issue which caused him to be angry by politely telling the customer saying that this feed back would enable & help you in serving him/her better the next time.
Customers expect everything to be perfect, as they pay for it. They could get it anywhere if they pay for it but yet they come to you for that perfection and they get angry when they are disappointed. When in anger they wont understand your difficulties.
Reason could be different. But you should stick to the reason that you have to keep yourself in business no matter whats the annoyance, you should address it and make the customer come back.
A customer only can keep you in Business. He is the cause of your business and not an interruption.

I believe it is because people have no self respect and are willing to embarrass themselves to save a couple dollars, nobody likes a scene in front of all the other costumers so managers give them free stuff just to shut them up
so these people do it every chance they get
it is not only food, I work in a hotel and you should hear some of the complaints I get.

First of all the customer is always right, that is if you want to stay in business. Sounds like customer service is not your stong suit, and maybe you need to ask yourself why you are even in this job, or its possible you are just not suited for management. Of course we know you never complain about service or anything like that when you go somewhere, right ? Sounds to me like you are just sick of this job is the real issue.

People demand quality, the good ones survive and the bad ones move on to something else. Why not try find work where you don't have to deal too directly with outside customers?

I know what you mean. A few weeks ago I went with my girlfriend, Kate to a Sunday brunch buffet (Kate's idea-I wanted to watch football) and a guy made a BIG STINK because his ham and cheese omelet wasn't "pretty enough."
He stood there and complained to the omelet chef that his omelet was ugly and he wasn't leaving until he got a "pretty one." I went up to the front of the line, grabbed his "ugly" omelet out of his hand, grabbed a fork and took a bit of it and said "It's beautiful" to the omelet chef. I took it back to my table and enjoyed every bite of it.
People are strange.
