Of course they should. I am not going to list resons why becasue they are obvious. I cant think of any reason why they shouldn't be funded.

Vaccines and other medicines are developed by our very "for profit" pharmaceutical companies. I'm not sure what you mean by food enhancements, but if you mean vitamins and stuff, they also make a healthy profit. These things should be funded by those profits. If the government provides research money, then the selling price should be strictly regulated, since the research was already paid by taxpayers.
