"There's no pleasing you, is there?" my husband of over 20 years says, and we have at last reached a relationship where I can chuckle and say, "Nope, but I really appreciate that you tried, and I love you for that and thank you, anyway," and we have a hug. Then I do something nice for him like get him a beer next time he's watching TV. It wasn't easy getting here, but it's a relief. Give your husband a break. Be glad he didn't get killed in a car crash on the way home, and keep your life in perspective.

Your husband sounds like he's depressed about the ability to please you - "what does it matter what I buy?". Do your finances extend to the very high cost of the fleeting beauty of red roses (which symbolize passion and maybe it's fled?)

Do you always gift him with something special on Vday? Don't get so caught up in the commercialism of "it's all about me" of this Madison Avenue hyped day. Real life is never going to live up to the expectations of million-dollar TV commercials.

To return to your question: what do you do ..... you smile and say "Thank you, dear, no decent-looking red roses this year? These are pretty. I hope you like what I got for you," and get to work on your marriage.

Be grateful. Most men are practical. I told my husband NOT to buy flowers. I can't stand to watch them die. If he is going to spend $100.00 I want something that will last longer than a week.

Oh, I am practical too, we celebrate on Feb. 15th.

Why is it that he can only buy you red roses? Is it your rule or what you think Valentine's tradition is?

Be glad he bought you anything at all and thank him nicely. This is a really petty problem; don't let it affect your relationship.

You should be a little disturbed by it, because if i was married i would be. If it's really bothering you just talk to him. Tell him that you care and that it means something to you to know that he cares and remembers what you like.
