Why doesn't the Catholic Church do a better background check before they let people in the seminary?

They do. It's called "discernment". That is the job of the head of the seminary.

However, the question is...what are those head seminarians looking for? What do they want? They want men who think like them, or could be molded to think like them. Is this the case everywhere in all seminaries? No way! However, as been apparent there is enough out there to create the enviroment of homosexuality and then pedastry to be 'acceptable'

I am a Catholic and a very devout one. For me to admit this is shameful. It is as if I am to hide and say that there was a mistake 'once'. When in actuality it appears that this is still ongoing; the placement of men who do not have a true vocation and thus skewing the discernment needed and so necessary.

I live in Wisconsin, and we have two seminaries in the Milwaukee area that are known as "The Lavender School", at one the head seminarian is very effeminate and very much into 'gay rights' and *gasp* guess what we get every year? Effeminate, 'socialist', liberal, left wing thinking priests. Ah...but didn't God promise us priests after our own hearts????? We shan't complain, right?

All we can do is continue to pray for our priests, assist those that have a vocation; and even those that realize they do not.

The older ones did not have to go through a background check as the church took them at their word that they would follow their vows of chastity.
Then came the drought of people wanting to be in the seminary and they took any who applied.

That wouldn't likely reveal anything. It is years in the seminary that eventually reveal the urges and behavior. I'm not being disrespectful to the Catholic Church, I just believe that when men are accepted into the seminary, their intentions are pure, but after years in this environment, their human nature and urges finally emerge. They have no control over it.

The Church does a very extensive counseling for all priests. The very small number of people that have personality problems just slip thru, just like in any other church. Also age changes people and sometimes that means a big turn around in their character over many years.

Nuns are women individuals who consecrate their lives to God. they have an identical form of calling to serve God that Preists do. what's the point of having Saints? we are all called to be Saints,, we are able to not enter heaven till we are Saints, in the different case Heaven might want to be imperfect. They do, but once the boys get into the seminary they are overcome by all the good looking boys and then turn gay and what better place to be than with the other priests and all. plus no one questions your unattractedness to women.

In 1961, Pope John XXIII approved an Instruction stating, "Advantage to religious vows and ordination should be barred to those who are afflicted with evil tendencies to homosexuality or pederasty, since for them the common life and the priestly ministry would constitute serious dangers." I don't know, but I don't think anyone expects 18 year old boys to be pedos. And if you want to know the answer, why not ask your fundie preacher why they don't do background checks on mormon, pentecostal and southern baptist preachers, I mean, they are not only molesting boys, but girls, other men's wives and anyone else they can get their hands on, And they are stealing your money and getting drunk and high all the time. Why aren't you upset about that?

What would a background check show? Sexual repression can often be a cause of sexual abuse. That doesn't happen, officially anyway, until after they join the seminary.
