you sould like me just last night while doing my lil boy's candy bags for school..
ya, i would do/did the same thing. it wouldn't be fair for john to get a butterscotch while heather gets a hershey chocolate. i count piece by piece per bag. this way, one kid won't take another kids bag cuz he/she did'nt get the same as the other.
as far as being picky... picky you are not, it's called being fair... that's just a man for ya.
tell your hubby that you got 1 bag of mint candy and 1 box of hershey chocolates, and you are gonna give the box of chocolates to your coworker and give him the bag of mints and see what he says??? and when he ask why he didn't get the chocolates, tell him you didn't want to be "PICKY", lol.....

I done the same. I gave the same amount to each kid. Every bag was just alike with the same candy and quantity. Only difference was the different little valentine's day cards. No your not being picky, your being fair.

"But, I know my son would be the first to complain that he only got one piece of gum while "suzy" got two." And I'd be telling my child. "Life isn't always the way we want it to be." Maybe suzy deseved the two pieces of gum more. If life were really fair half of us wouldn't be here today, There would have been no Holocaust, no Viet Nam POWs, No 911 and Christ wouldn't have been Crucified. Sometimes even children have to deal with the fact that other people sometimes get more.

I've sorted before - in fact, I make up treat bags fo halloween and each one has the smae number of items in it, and same products.
Not too picky at all - it's knowing the kids and how some will whine.

I do the sorting to make sure that everyone gets the same but I was dealing with Halloween candy and grown men deployed but I am sure it is the same situation. They will be hurt if different amounts and such. Kids count.

I would do the exact same thing!! I just see it as being fair! I have also seen the kids complain with my own eyes at other birthday parties. And I just think to myself ''why didn't they sort them out!" I totally understand your point of view!

Most mothers act just like you and most fathers act just like your husband. I for one, being a father, side with your husband, but sensitivity isn't one of our strong points. However, do you want your son to be more like you or your husband?

I always sorted them.
But I also know that in school, kids like to trade for their favorites & that's okay too.
(It's not OCD....it's just realizing that young children DO compare & proactive management is a good way to go)
