A question was asked moments ago: if the user asked a fellow human for help instead of God, was it a sin?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070213215647AAmirOQ

One of the answerers replied as follows:
Well God KNEW you needed help and sent that fellow human to assist you. You should thank Him.

What I'd like to know is... HOW does God "send" people to assist others? What is it that God does to "send" these helpers?

Ok... what's involved in this Holy Spirit thing? God sends the Holy Spirit and it does what? It whispers suggestions into their hearts? Their heads? Their guts? What?

Am I understanding this right... are people REALLY saying that God sends a supernatural delivery boy to implant "helpful" compulsions into our minds??

Well, he uses the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit. That whispers these things to you, or puts thoughts into your mind. The more you are willing to help others the more God will direct you (through the Holy Ghost/spirit) to help those in need. I hope this helps, for more info go to: mormon.org

First off, the initial question was kind of silly. Why would it be a sin to ask someone for help? The answer I think refers to the belief that nothing in life is a coincidence. The person who helped him could have been there by chance. But the answerer of the question obviously thinks God had a purpose in that person somehow being there. That's why she said he should thank God. I agree with that. At the same time it does raise interesting questions about free will. The person could have chose to be somewhere else and wouldn't have been in a position to help someone. But maybe then someone else would have eventually come along to help. Either way, the generosity of a person who helps another is inspired by God . I think that is the reason she told the guy he should thank God for the help he received from a human. Ultimately, the help came from God who is the creator of all humans.

Have you ever had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, stranded with 3 kids and no cell phone or anyway of getting help? And suddenly someone driving by stops to help you and you are really scared thinking it might be some serial killer, but it happens to be some mechanic guy that your best friend used to date about 5 years earlier, and so you are surprised but know you can trust him. The funny thing is that you are about 500 miles from where you both live. Now the guy was on his way home from a visit a relative and you were on your way home from another location. What made that guy get on the road and be in the exact place you needed him to be? Why would only somebody you could trust pop in suddenly? What are the odds?

God has this really big console up in heaven and when he presses a button, it makes you do stuff you normally wouldn't.

Well, maybe there is...who knows? There was this guy that walked past this woman, and suddenly he felt as if he was pulled by the collar and twirled around and pushed back toward her. He felt compelled to tell her that she would soon become "with child" (this happened infront of several people...their eyes must have been bugging out of their heads!)

She was a woman who had been married for a long time, but inspite of trying to conceive, had never succeeded. However, she constantly prayed about it.

A year later, she had a daughter.

Yes...The Holy Ghost does exist and God prompts people through the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is mentioned many times in the scriptures...such as in:

Matt. 28: 19 baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 6: 3 seven men . . . full of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 7: 51 ye do always resist the Holy Ghost.
Acts 8: 15 prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost.

Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart. Now, behold, this is the spirit of revelation; behold, this is the spirit by which Moses brought the children of Israel through the Red Sea on dry ground.

and it makes sense in our mind and in our hearts

Well, with 80% of the United States being Christian and all, over here at least, there aren't enough volunteers to reach everyone in aid. Angels have also not been allowed to directly intervene in Earthly affairs since 800 AD. I mean, in the Year of Our Lord, 800.

So there's a lottery system. You have a 1/60 chance of having a follower of Christ help you out of a jam on divine command. Your odds go up considerably however if any syrupy documentary of "Miracles" is being made in your area.

God communicates with us all. Some people pass it off as an unction or sixth sense.

Through his word he instructs us and we choose to go or not.
