The extra blankets cause you to warm up, and therefore your temperature goes up.
You'll get through this in awhile.

Covering up when you have the chills will not give you a fever. If you have a fever a normal reaction of the body is to make sweat in an attempt to cool you down, the sweat mixed with cool room air give you the chills. In this case you want to cover with a little sheet or blanket to help fight the chills. You do not want a lot of covers on that will keep you hot and your fever high. Drinking a class of water every hour and taking tylenol or fever reducer will help

You don't get a fever from covering up. Fevers give you chills because your body is trying to deal with too much heat. Trying to get warmer increases the fever and the chills. I know you feel like you want to get warm but what you need to do is put a cold cloth on your forehead to bring your temperature down and take some aspirin or other fever reducer.Be sure and sip some water too.

You can cover up with a sheet,or lite blanket. You don't just have to sit there and shiver.
If you running a fever, all the sheets and blankets that are on you, hold the fever in,and makes you seem colder, and shiver more. Why this happens I don't know. But at the hospital where I clerk at,pt family cover them up too much....
