You know, writing is NOT a modern invention.
From the site listed below:
"We do not know exactly when writing was first invented. The oldest writing samples that still exist today date from around 3100 B.C. They come from Sumeria, a land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in modern Iraq. Egyptian writings from about the same time have also survived.
Our earliest Hebrew writing is a school boy's writing exercises from the tenth century B.C. This student used a clay tablet to list the months of the year and their agricultural significance. It was found in the town of Gezer and is known as the Gezer calenda. Several other archaeological finds have produced examples of Hebrew writing from the eighth century B.C. onwards.
The earliest copy of the Hebrew Scriptures, however, was written much later. Until the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947, the oldest copy of the entire Old Testament in Hebrew that survived had been produced about A.D. 1000. The Dead Sea Scrolls included a large number of Hebrew Scriptures, about 95 percent of which matched the Hebrew Old Testament as we have it today. These Hebrew Scriptures must have been written down no later than the first century A.D., getting us almost 1,000 years closer than before to the originals."
So they were certainly capable of writing down the Old Testament stories. Oral traditions (no writing involved) can retain an amazing amount of detail as well.

There is evidence of written language during the time of the Sumerian culture. However most Biblical scholars do not believe that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, and neither do I. Scholars were able to determine that there were actually four authors of those books. This finding is called the Documentary Hypothesis and is widely accepted by the intelligencia. Richard Friedman wrote at length on this topic in his book Who Wrote the Bible.

Before writing was used things were passed along by word of mouth and it was the elders in the communities duty to pass along from generation to generation the history.Just as they do today and if you haven't ever had the chance to listen to your granparent or any older person tell you about what their experience with some of the things from their past(moments in history)give it a try they like to tell about it, and you might appreciate that person more and appreciate the importants of oral tradition.

They were told from family member to family member, etc.... It's like you have stories in your family (things that happened to your grandparents grandparent's). These stories are told from one person to the next and one day it's told to you. These stories are important to your family, therefore they're passed down so that it will be remembered.
Also another thing to rememeber is that Adam was still alive during the days of Lamech (Noah's father). So you can almost picture Adam gathering people together and telling them over and over how God created everything and how God showed both punishment and mercy to him (Adam) and Eve when they disobeyed. These people would have told the stories to their children (Lamech telling Noah) and Noah would have continued on in the same tradition.......

Ancient Hebrew is the same. There was a tradition of learning and literacy that allowed the culture to develop. This has been so for 4500 years.

Who told you that. People where writing 5,000 years ago when the Bhagavad Gita was spoken by Lord Krishna. That is misinformation on your part. Do you want the original new Testament before king Constantine misconstrued so many things. Go to gospelofthenazirenes.c You will be enlivened of the original teachings of Christ which practically no mainstream Christians know
