Yeah it does make a difference... When I first got my retainer, if I didn't wear it during the day I'd have to force my teeth back into it whenever I wanted to put it back on... I ended up fine in the end, but it was really gross because whenever I had to force my teech back into the retainer my teeth would feel all loose and painful and yuck. And because I didn't wear my retainer enough like I was supposed to my teeth moved a little, not that much but they aren't as perfect as they were when the braces first came off.

But if you wear it 24/7 for the first month (or as long as you can stand it) so you'll be able to get away with only wearing it at night much easier afterwards.

I have been given my braces of three years in the past. I wore my retainer each evening for like a twelve months and a nil.5, and then my orthodontist reported i'd desire to quit donning it. My the teeth have not shifted or something..i think of you would be wonderful.

I know a girl who could feel that her teeth had already started shifting by the end of the day if she forgot to wear her retainer. Most teeth move VERY quickly. In about six months your dentist will probably tell you to wear your retainer only at night. For now- wear it ALL THE TIME (except for when eating, drinking, or brushing your teeth)! You do NOT want to have braces again, do you?

Well I have to wear a retainer and even though it's invisible i just can't stand having to wear it all day. So I only wear them at night. But I suggest that you wear it 24/7 for as long as you can stand it, and then just start wearing them at night. But if they seem tight when you put them on, you should wear them all day or more until they are loose again.

Of course you can disobey your orthodontist and wear your retainer only at night. By doing so; however, you will prolong your orthodontic treatment. My 10-year old granddaughter chose to do exactly what you are contemplating. By doing so, she extended her treatment by two years! Her orthodondist was even considering discontinuing treatment and dismissing her as a patient. Orthodontists know when you are not following procedure.

If you want your teeth to go back to how they were, go ahead. Believe me, I had braces, didn't wear my retainers forever because they started getting too tight; and now 8 years later--could use braces again. I should have worn them or gone into the orthodontist and said something when they started feeling too tight.

WELL CERTAIN MALOCCLUSIONS IE SKEW TEETH WILL NEED LONGER RETENTION THAN OTHERS. IF TEETH ARE VERY SKEW OR IF YOU ARE GROWING STILL THEN A LONGER RETENTION TIME IS NEEDED. TO ONLY WEAR IT AT NIGHT MAY BE A BAD IDEA. IF TEETH BECOME SKEW AGIAN, YOU MIGHT NEED TREATMENT AGAIN....MORE COSTS AND MORE BRACES...YOU DONT WANT THAT. IT IS BEST TO WEAR IT AS PRESCRIBED AND PERHAPS GIVE HIM A CALL OR SEE HIM AND ASK HOW LONG BEFORE YOU CAN GO OFF THE RETAINERS OR REDUCE YOUR WEAR TIME.

well, you can't really disobey him, because the orthodontist police are watching your every move!!!!!!!

but honestly, it will make a difference. you should wear it at night, but why wouldn't you? you're asleep, you probably won't notice it.
