The only difference in religion and superstition is the spelling.

Similes. Because "religious" and "superstitious" synonyms are somewhat connected to the same meaning. If you were to do something "sinful", it would involve a religious belief. Most people feel that they will be punished by God and go to hell if they did a bad thing (sin). "Superstitious" is when people believe that Friday the 13th or crossing the path of a bad cat is "bad luck". Also another belief is the "three fold law". If you do something bad to someone or something, it will come back to you three fold (payback). Which is similar to, " If you do this or that, something bad will happen to you"

It's sort of like a punishment by some unknown source beyond our control.

Good luck and keep an open mind. I hope this helps a little.

Not all religions are superstitious. Deism is based on what is found in nature and science. It rejects anything supernatural as being outside God's eternal and unchanging laws of nature.

In fact, the motto of the Deist is "hate the superstition, but love the superstitious."
