believing in things that can't be proven. of course going by that definition...you would be able to say that people who are religious are also superstitious. sounds like it works to me though.

Superstition: of, relating to, or swayed by superstition
1 a : a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation
1.b : an irrational abject attitude of mind toward the supernatural, nature, or God resulting from superstition
2 : a notion maintained despite evidence to the contrary
definition 2 is the best beneral definition.
Remember what you define as efidence may be differeent from someone elses definition of evidence.
It is a bit like the differece between opinion and fact. everyday life is filled with both but some things we call facts are actually opinions because they are held with out facts to support them.

Super-stit-ious
Adj. 1. superstitious - showing ignorance or the laws of nature and faith in magic or chance; "finally realized that the horror he felt was superstitious in origin" and is closely related to being overcome by a fear of an unknown origin (a standing over is the literal root of the word)
The King of Persia in the Book of Daniel is superstitious:
14:5. And the king said to him: Doth not Bel seem to thee to be a living god? Seest thou not how much he eateth and drinketh every day?
14:6. Then Daniel smiled, and said: O king, be not deceived: for this is but clay within, and brass without, neither hath he eaten at any time.
14:7. And the king being angry, called for his priests, and said to them: If you tell me not who it is that eateth up these expenses, you shall die.
14:8. But if you can show that Bel eateth these things, Daniel shall die, because he hath blasphemed against Bel. And Daniel said to the king: Be it done according to thy word.
So Daniel proves that the priests eat the food given to the idol. And the King does not believe in Bel the idol statue anymore.
Daniel had true faith and the Lord saved him:
14:39. And upon the seventh day the king came to bewail Daniel: and he came to the den, and looked in, and behold Daniel was sitting in the midst of the lions.
14:40. And the king cried out with a loud voice, saying: Great art thou, O Lord, the God of Daniel. And he drew him out of the lions' den.
So Daniel is found alive and the King believes that Daniel's God, the God of Abraham, is real. Because something really happened and he could see it. I pray that you will see a miracle someday that will convince your heart to commit to faith and love in God, who made heaven and earth.
Being overcome by a fear of an unknown origin is caused by not having the presence of the Holy Spirit in you. With Baptism, gifts are given to you that assist you with true Faith in God. It is not that people of God do not fear, they do. But they take shelter in the shadow of God's wings, and they feel relief and receive consolation from Him.
