What is the treatment for this and how it is diagnosed? X-rays were taken at the clinic; however, her pediatrician didn't see anything that was a cause for a concern; however, as a precautionary measure she referred us to an orthopedic specialist. We see the specialist next week as she isn't walking yet other than with a push toy and walks with her legs outward and an awkward waddle. Her physical therapist feels that it's just lack of tone and endurance on the left side of her body as she's been pulling up and cruising furniture favoring her right side for the past six months. What say you?? Professional and serious answers only PLEASE!!

As a nurse going for physicians assistant, let me try and help. Children develop at completely different levels and ages than others. It could be that your little one is just on a slower route than some. I hope that she isn't in any pain when she tries to walk. That would be an alert for immediate concern... It sounds to me like it's just her learning at a pace that is not uncommon. We have a little boy in my sons playgroup; he is 2 and just starting to take his first steps on his own. Strangely enough, he is perfectly healthy and in need of nothing but TLC. Hopefully, that is the case for you. But, if not, good luck with all. I frown upon the idea of giving you medical advice when I am not certain of the condition. I don't want to steer you in the wrong path. Good Luck!

I wuold imagine that they will put leg braces on her.. they will go from her hips possibly down to her feet and around her heel.... I don't know exactly how long it will have to be worn, but I am guessing about a year... And she may need physical therapy too.... They will help though trust that... Fortunately for me, I was 2 months old when I was diagnosed and I had to wear a full body brace with my knees to my chest 24/7 other than baths and diaper changes... I still to this day have problems with my hips popping out of place.... but if I didn't have it done at that age, then when I started walking I would have to get the leg braces... It is better to get them now though (if that is what they do) before she gets school age..... I am not completely sure how it is diagnosed.. sorry... however I know that when it comes to this issue with my hips, it was caused by the muscles not being thick enough around that area.... because my mother was too small to carry me and I was in the fetal position the entire nine months therefore I wasn't able to build the muscle needed...

She may be just fine though.... She may jsut need more time to build tone and get to walking.. Go to the specialist and then go from there... don't stress though... nothing at all may be wrong...

I am sorry I can't be of more help to you...

As a child I suffered from Hip Dysplacia and shortend ligaments. Unfortunately at the time the only surgery they could do was experimental at best. Corrective shoes and years of learning how to walk properly worked, I even ran track in middle school. I hope it's just poor muscle toning which is much simpler to fix. I hope everything is ok. Good Luck.
