My dog broke her leg about a week ago, and we took her to the vet and stuff. She ended up having surgery and getting a plate-like thing with 4 screw to hold it to help the bone heal. The part im wondering about is that....is it normal for her to be lazy? She sleeps ALOT now. Most of the day. She doesnt realy want to play or anything. Is this normal for a dog after surgery? (She has a cast on and its gona stay on for about 2 months) Plz help. Thnx, i appreciate it.

She is probably still working through the anesthesia from surgery. Did the vet give her meds for pain? I think that she will be lazy for awhile, but keep an eye on her and try to get her moving some - not a lot - and give her plenty of love and attention - and maybe a new toy! Give her a treat for me!!

It may just me a side affect of the medication that your dog is on (my vet puts them on a painkiller and antibiotic). Also, if it was a long surgery (which most plate placements are) she may not of gotten all of the anesthetics out of her system yet. If she doesn't start acting better in the next day or two I would call your vet. You may want to call them anyways just to make sure that her leg is not infected, which can cause them to be lethargic.

I would say it probably from the surgery and she just needs time to heal before she is going to want to play but if you start to get really concerned about her I would check with the vets office.

She is probably still in pain, but you can ask your vet to see if thats normal. I would still be in some kind of pain after that kind of surgery

yeah its normal. my dog had surgery and it took her a while to get back to normal. the whole process takes a lot out of them plus the medicine makes them drowsy too.
