It is definitely possible. He may feel too nervous with an addition of a new cat or he could be feeling under the weather.
Are you sure he isn't eating at all? It is best to monitor what he is actually eating for the next few weeks.
Don't let him have access to food all the time. Only lay down his dish multiple times a day in a quiet room away from his sister. Come check on him in awhile and see if he took some bites.
If he has completely stopped eating then I would only let him go 1 whole day, maximum 2 without eating before having his vet examine him for illness. And that is only if he isn't showing any other signs of being sick or not like his usual self.
It really just might be that he feels too nervous to eat around a new cat. Also watch that his sister isn't dominating the food dish, hence why he should be fed in a seperate room for now.
I hope the problem works itself out. Good luck with your kitties!

He could be missing the other cat a lot and that could make him lethargic but most often when their appetite is affected it is because of a medical situation. If the cat is still drinking, that's a good sign. Offer him his favorite foods and treats, if he turns those down you should take him to the vet. Only after he is checked by a professional will you know for sure what is going on.

When a cat is not eating you need to see the vet ASAP. It doesn't take long for things to take a turn for the worse. It COULD be depression but he still needs to see a vet.

do you mean tha this sister now livwes elsewhere, no longer with you?? IF SO, YES, KITTIES MOURN FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME.oops....love kitty and feed good food, as always--it tkes a very long time for a cat to stop mourning a PLAYMAte ---my cat was showing signs of mourning for 5 years after i let her playmate have a different home..try playing with kitty so he does not feel the loss as much--very difficult to replace a good playmate, if you are a kitty......
